I'd rather see Atkinson being played in his natural position which is on the wing where he was played last week. This week, he was dropped in favour of Vidosic.

It's at right back he's shown the most consistency and is where he started to make a name for himself in the Aleague

City closing in on Maclaren apparently,

The article is behind a paywall though, they were after Nabbout and Taggart as well, they will fit him in the cap by having a long back ended deal.

fuck yes.  it will be a good move for him. city will set him up properly in europe if he performs well.

Melbourne City edging closer towards signing Socceroos striker Jamie Maclaren

JANUARY 23, 2019Socceroos striker Jamie Maclaren is edging closer to joining Melbourne City after the Asian Cup to replace outcast Bruno Fornaroli.

City are understood to have overcome their salary cap squeeze by negotiating a heavily back-ended deal for former Brisbane Roar marksman Maclaren.

Midfielder Osama Malik is the latest player to depart City, sealing a move to Saudi Arabia.Malik’s exit opens up a second spot in the roster after Scot Michael O’Halloran departed, plus further salary cap space.

Malik, who joined City in January 2016 from Adelaide United in a trade for Stefan Mauk, is City’s longest serving current player behind Fornaroli.

City have also sounded out Andrew Nabbout and current Roar centre-forward Adam Taggart, but Maclaren is the most feasible option, despite some issues still needing to be thrashed out before Germans Darmstadt release him.

Maclaren will be inside the salary cap this season, before transitioning into City’s new $1 million-a-year marquee man from June, in a multi-year deal.

Manchester-based chief Brian Marwood negotiated the deal, with an Aaron Mooy-esque City Football Group pathway plotted for Maclaren, 25, who has scored nine goals in 38 games with Darmstadt and Scots Hibernian in the last 18 months.

City are hoping that Maclaren replicates his Roar strike rate of 43 goals in 59 games.

Maclaren, currently at the Asian Cup, could be available for as few as 10 A-League games.

He told Fox Sports that a move was imminent.

“There is something happening for the future but for now it’s all about this (Asian Cup),’’ Maclaren said.

“I’ve always enjoyed my football in the A-League I’ve scored 51 goals (with Roar and Perth Glory) and I’m so proud of my achievements there. I watch every game and keep tabs on the league which is growing all the time.”

City Sam not sure how you come to that conclusion. He'll be like a much better version of Lachie Wales. And by the chances Lachie has failed to put away I'd say he'll do quite well.

Because he will be very isolated and Wales as a player is very good at chasing balls over the top because he is quick. Maclaren needs a lot of service, he isn't going to get that.

What? Maclaren got a lot of his goals in the A-League from balls over the top because he is quick........................

Sigh. I never realised MacLaren had such a poor speed and agility to get beyond defenders. Considering many of his goals came down to his movement and speed. But ok.

Maclaren did score from balls over the top but that’s not his main source. Broich and Petratos both created high quality chances for him, most on the ground. His strength was good timing (of his run) as he’d often play off the shoulder of the last defender, and acceleration, he’s not particularly quick but he accelerates really well. As long as he’s got good supply his timing and acceleration lead to goals.

I should clarify then, he'll be chasing balls down over the top from the halfway line, that isn't his game. He is just not a good fit in a team as negative as this, he thrives off service. He won't get any

He does thrive off service ... he also doesn’t thrive in a tough environment. Unless he’s toughened the f’ck up he’ll need handling with kid gloves.

@ Melbcityguy

Roar Supporters started the season with a #BringAMate campaign. The logic being that if the 50,000+ different people that purchased tickets each year brought a mate to just one game, average crowds would jump.

It worked well enough early on but when you’re playing shite it becomes harder to do. The issue we ran in to was with members, the most likely group to bring a mate, being locked in to high density seating areas - it’s harsh to bring a mate then ask them to sit elsewhere and not next to the mate that brought you lol (the solution was to create a GA section with free seating).

But good on the guy for trying. There’s only one reason crowds are poor - that’s people not turning up enough.

i remember you posting about all the work the supporters did in the off season and it was very impressive unfortunately things out of your control has slowed the momentum for now. but will be interesting to see how we go with this and if this is something fans can start to do to improve the game a bit

@ Melb City

You have to take the highs n lows as a supporter right.

The W-Lesgue games are going well with 2-4,000 at Lions stadium and crowds approaching 1k for NYL games.

HAL is a lemon this season but we’ll do it all again over the winter and see where we go. We opened up with two 15,000 crowds ... where might they have gone if JA and his team had delivered?
