FFA boss Chris Nikou breaks silence over sacking Matildas coach Alen Stajcic

Following last week's sacking of national women's football coach Alen Stajcic, and more claims of an environment where cultural issues were allegedly commonplace, the chairman of football's governing body has broken his silence and said the sacking was "the right decision"...

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-01-27/matildas-alen-stajcic-sacking-ffa-boss-nikou-breaks-silence/10754040

FFA trying to regain the narrative but still plenty of holes in it.

Still too many questions than answer, someone should investigate this because it seems the FFA are trying to stay put whilst trying to protect themselves.

We need to know Staj's side of the story.

If by “breaking his silence” you mean:
“Was the coach given an opportunity to address the issues?”
Nikou: “I can’t comment on that.”

Alen can't speak if he wants to pursue the idea of court action, FFA won't talk so they do not incriminate themselves further.

Yep.
“I intend taking up this matter with the Chairman of the FFA at the earliest possible opportunity to find out, amongst other things, whether the director has spoken for the whole Board.”
So Nikou is forced to either confirm the Director has acted inappropriately or else admit that he and the Board authorised the various quotes to the media.
Popcorn please.

Let's hope this clear failure of governance serves a warning to how things should be handled.

FFA banked on fans initially getting roiled up and then rolling over and forgetting about it.

That's not me.

I am not primarily concerned about learning future lessons.

My first concern is seeing Stajcic get justice, and hopefully get reinstated as Matildas coach before the World Cup, and hopefully the rogue board members getting the sack.

I admire how Craig Foster is out there, meeting FIFA, to plead the case of Hakeen. Why is it left to an SBS commentator to do this. What FA are FFA doing about this? Instead, they're twiddling with Our Watch surveys and sacking a coach who's taken the Matildas to unprecedented heights. I've always admired Craig Foster and wish that he will be given more governance power in Australian football.

By the way, I may have missed something, but what is Craig Foster's stance on this Stajcic case?

While Stajcic getting his job back would be ideal, I think that's not gonna happen. At best, you can expect those responsible to be held to account and these things get fixed going forward.

Foster hasn't said anything about Stajcic but it's amazing to see the amount of work he had done for Hakeen.

Of course but so much for 'fearless' reporting and not caring about stepping on anyone's toes. Mr 'High and Mighty' himself.

And all this from a bloke who put himself up to be a member of the board.  He should be applying a big fuck off blowtorch to these pricks instead of staying schtum.

Normally I'd agree with you, but Craig Foster (along with Brendan Schwab) met with FIFA this morning in Zurich to try and get them to actually do something about the Hakeem Al-Araibi issue, which is becoming quite an urgent now.

Fozz is doing much more important work in trying to save the Australian refugee Al Araibi from an illegal extradition to Bahrain. His lobying has been relentless and is finally catching FIFA's attention. He's done far more than our disgraceful government, which has stayed shamefully quiet on the issue. He's doing us proud, so he can be forgiven for not joining the men's rights activists in their apoplectic outrage about Stajcic.

Agree - Fozz is going above and beyond, and a guy's life is a little more important than even a guy's livelihood.
Our Foreign Minister, Maryse Payne, is so useless she could be in line for an FFA Director role when the truth comes out. And has anyone seen teh Australian Human Rights Council? Probably too busy with the important job of vilifying uni students and cartoonists.

Most likely Foz is too focused on Hakeem to weigh in. He is abroad and won't have a full handle of these issues. Probably doesn't want to say anything without understanding the issues. Let him deal with the Hakeem matter instead (even though the FFA should be putting more pressure on themselves).

I agree. It'd be nice to hear his opinion, but not until after Hakeem has been brought back to Australia. Right now if he's going to talk to or about the FFA I'd rather he keep their focus on Hakeem's case.
