+x+x+x+x+xshower thought and serious question. Does Western United's name even make sense? Can a direction be united? Maybe they should've added Victoria or something to it. The name is confusing. Western United? One western what? Western Melbourne? Western Victoria? And United? I never knew the west burbs was splintered. I guess they couldnt use Melbourne United due to the nbl team. And unlike adelaide western United arent two teams merging to have a United front in the national league That's right. There's only one United 😉 As an aside to the silly name (keeping with what they are clearly aiming at, should probably be more like Western Plains United or Volcanic Plains United).. I showed my kids who technically are within WU's greater catchment, the clubs crest.. my 10 yo said 'meh' and my 7 yo said 'bad'. On that, something funky like VPU works as a name imo... or VolcanicsFC. At the moment they're just telling me bevels, rooftops and western some blah blah. Funny you should mention the Victorian Volcanic Plains. I suggested to them to use dark grey as one of their colours to represent the bluestone quarried from the western region that was used in the foundations of many important buildings in Melbourne. At least it was based on something tangible. They chose to go with colours that peoole just randomly liked in their poll (where you could only pick one colour, not a combination of colours). Tarniet means white in the local Aboriginal language. Huge opportunity missed. My suggestion was based on a Sampdoria kit, with white shorts, a dark grey shirt (instead of blue) and a white strip across the chest with smaller strips of green and burgundy within (instead of red and black). Dark grey for bluestone, white for Tarneit, green & burgundy for the vegetable farms and market gardens in the region west of Melbourne. All based on things relevant to the area. That ship has sailed...
