Now that the owners' have control of the HAL, it will be interesting to see how they go with expansion and marketing. They've talked a big game, now it's time to put up.  For the sake of the League they need to deliver on their promises.

Hopefully the board hasn't short changed itself and has the funding in place for a decent program with the national teams.

Our members are committed to investing in and delivering the elevation of all three of our National Professional Leagues to the status they deserve and the levels that all of the stakeholders of our game rightfully expect. 

FFA getting 10% of all international player transfers. I actually think it is a good thing, it will really encourage the FFA to develop high level players as it is now a revenue stream for them. Wonder if this means they will bring back theri COE in some form

Exactly. If independence comes in for the 19/20 season it means that the Nix automatically become a league shareholder just like every other HAL club. That means, that in order to remove them they would need to be voted out by the other shareholders or be found to be in some sort of major breach of the licencing agreement. It looks like the Nix are here to stay, unless they use this opportunity to sell the licence to an Australian club, which could be far easier under the independent model.

I would have thought 11 other clubs have a vote , if they decide metrics not met ( and they perceive a world without them is more commercially viable ) than adios muchachos.

What does this mean for expansion? Can this be fastracked now? Or still confined by Fox unless the bidders are willing to self fund?

Conversely, expansion can also be slowed by the existing clubs.  Effectively in their hands.

I would say Wellington are safe, the clubs have always been on their side.

I think initially we'll almost certainly see brand new websites for most if not all clubs, especially the bigger clubs. We'll probably see a major shift in merchandising now that the clubs will receive all of the profits. I remember hearing that the clubs only receive $10 for every jersey they sell due to the franchising agreement.

How do you know that? We keep hearing its the states that want them out, but do we know for sure they are the only ones? If they are not pulling their weight, there still appears to be out options under the new model.

They also voted Rob Morison (Phoenix chairman) as one of two representatives to negotiate on behalf of all the clubs with the FFA. The APFCA speaks for the clubs and they have continually said they want the Nix in.

This is the good news we desperately needed.  It was such a counter logical system, expecting owners to invest endlessly in something they didn't own.

We might see some interesting action on the marquee player front now from the bigger clubs.

Plus the salary cap may be out the door soon, I hope.

On the Nix issue, we need more clubs, not less.  Rather than getting rid of Wellington, I think it is far more likely that the new A League will look to support Wellington and the League with another club in Auckland.  A NZ derby would be huge over there.  The biggest problem we have is our small population size, which limits the competition.  Anyone who suggests ditching the Nix is suggesting cutting loose a market of 4 million people.  That would simply be nonsensical, and it won't happen.

Yep Nix staying long term is pretty much a done deal. Hope we get to build a new stadium now.

I am not sure why they deserve anything. How is the FFA involved in the development of a player and even the sale of a player. In any case I am wondering what if we had a transfer system in Australia, which is long over due. The FFA doesn't get a cut of that I am presuming (which they shouldn't). Why should we treat transfers differently if they are domestic or International? Discuss.

As the head of the gargantuan multi headed monster that is football in Australia, the FFA put in place the parameters under which all teams and Leagues operate. Therefore the machinery of the existence of the HAL and State Federations NPL's etc etc etc.From this it is reasonable that they collect on selling by the clubs of players to regimes outside their purview. As said above, a good and novel way of ensuring an income stream for the future for the FFA to support the lower leagues as well as the National Teams.
