So what’s the excuse for this one?

Probably another case of the glass being half full or half empty.
I think it's WU's first attendance over 10k, so we have to accept that as a good thing.
But yeh, it's not great, then again, what are we expecting from this club?
I would have though: not a lot.
Might be years before we know how good they can be on and off the field.

Do we expect more from MV? They use to get huge crowds playing in Geelong against the likes of Perth a few years ago.

That’s the point I was getting at earlier.
I’m an MV supporter but was actually disappointed with the turn out today from the away fans as well.
Tickets were cheap, the day was good and the KO time was more than reasonable.

Thought 12k may have been the pass mark for today...

We're currently at our worst ladder position ever (excluding in the first couple of rounds in a season) so that's obviously going to have an effect.

Hard to make a direct comparison here. That was a Victory home game, so it had the benefit of drawing from all their members.

I couldn't make it as I had something on, but I think fixturing a derby on a sunday in Vic is very strange. they should always be on saturdays.

I dont think 10k for WU's derby can be seen as a win

City have always struggled with crowds but at least their derby home games are over 20k, and away games of 30k

WU havent done anything to capitalise on being a big fish which is why they were given the gig

At least City's games are in the City the club is supposed to represent.

To me thus game seems to be the equivalent of SFC and Wandered playing the derby in the Gong.

Maybe it's the equivalent of Macarthur playing at Giants Stadium while getting it's own ground built?

No way, will get 20k+, that match still has “event” status. I know a lot of junior teams will be there as well. What happends after thst mstch will be the concern.

Possibly its more like Mariners playing SFC at "home" in Newcastle.

On another thread, we had a brief discussion about W-League attendances, and I thought they were going ok, but it looks like that's not the case.

sportsindustry@footyindustryAUThe 2019-20 W-league season is experiencing the lowest average attendance since these statistics began to be recorded in 2016. Just 26,419 people have shown up to the first sixteen games, which has included three double-headers.

Set up to fail: why the W-League’s popularity problem is not on the pitch

W-League crowd figures have never been lower. But why? Is the league lacking role models, marketing, community connection or relevance? It might be all of the above

Not only are City ripping off Victory fans with $55 tickets in the away end, but they didn't put bays in the top deck on sale until last week (and they have only opened 3 bays). maybe 10,000-12,000 is unders, but it'll still be the lowest Victory/City derby in HAL history.

But the Derby on February 7 will be worse. If City keep those $55 tickets for the away end, I reckon there will be a organised boycott from Victory fans.

They were going ok until this past week due to no double headers.

Ive made a number of posts this morning after i retweeted that to provide some context.

To be fair W-league domestic crowds are hard to compare anything to. WBBL, Supernetball, WNBL are rarely publicly reported. NRLW games are mostly double headers with Mens finals except stand alone Orign. AFLW 2019 ave 4,681, but had free entry.

Back on W-league crowds - its worth noting they were up 3% on last year before this round - down this round against last year due to this round having no double headers, and the same round last year having 2 including more than 5k alone at Jubilee Stadium. (This R4 total 4,922)

R4 of the 2019-20 W-league season was attended by 4,922 people, taking the season total to 27,155. The average for all games is down 12.67% to 1,697 (-246 per game). Standalone match attendances are however up 21.69% to 1,437 per game (+256 per game).
