Can we give credit to how good Korea has looked?

True. Some future stars in that team. Shame we didnt draw Saudi or uzbekistan in the semi's

Why hasn’t Folami had more game time. The short cameos he has had in the past two games he has looked ok, a better player than Toure I would suspect.

All you people calling for metcalfe hang your heads in shame. He's abominable

No goals scored with Metcalfe on the park. Genreau comes on and destabilises the midfield and boom Korea win 2-0.

My reflections:
1. What on earth was up with the starting lineup?
2. Cleur and Buhagiar are just athletes, not football players. So one dimensional and lack many basic skills. I’ll leave that there, otherwise I’ll get too grumpy thinking about them.
3. So many weird brain farts in defence this tournament, where we have passed it to the other team in our half.
4. Gersbach grew into the tournament after the Thailand game, became more confident, but still was prone to getting caught out.
5. We offered nothing up front until Piscopo came on. Why he didn’t play more just baffles me.
6. Baccus was better today, but needs to iron out errors. He tends to do a lot of hospital passes.
7. Korea were awesome and barely looked like they got out of second gear. They were a joy to watch.
8. Toure is a great prospect and I love him and believe he can achieve so much BUT he is also still very inexperienced and will get better with more club games. Raw talent is there, but lacks intensity and any ability to head a ball. He always pulls out of headers...
9. We looked exhausted by about 60 min. Obviously due to heaps of games and Korea making us run ourselves into the ground.
10. I’d love to see us produce players like their 10 and 14. They were exciting.
11. Uzbekistan are beatable, as long as the team selection is right. By now Arnold should have worked out who can do the job and who can’t.

I don't think anyone can complain about the result after that performance it really has been like that the entire tournament (for the most part) but tonight it has been fully exposed by a superior opponent.

So the Uzbeks on Saturday - From what I've seen of them they are technical but will also match us physically I will say though that their centre striker has missed quite a few opportunities in this tournament (not just against Saudi but a few other games) and shouldn't be too much of a threat to our centre backs in terms of physicality or 1on1s. The 2 wingers look very good though backed up by a strong midfield and structured defence we really need to knuckle down for Saturday as this will be a challenge for sure.

Read a facebook post saying metcalfe was replaced due to illness. Hope the kids alright especially with that bug from china going around. Need him for Saturday. Genreau quality against weaker opponents but clearly struggles against the big teams.

the timidity in passing - safely passing back to the defensive line - was agonising. i am not surprised that we didnt log a shot on goal.

I only managed to watch the first half but holy hell that right hand side of Cleur and Buhagiar was maybe the worst combination I have seen at any level.

Can't see us beating the Uzbeks.

Looking further ahead, we look to have at least a decade of mediocre to poor senior men's teams coming  up.

In other words, more of what we've got now, which is, frankly, drek.

Oh well.

Regarding the starting lineup, I think this all came down to rotations. Piscopo for example has started every game, having played 99 minutes in the game against Syria. Playing that many games in that time, in those conditions would surely take its toll. I can't help but wonder if Arnold may have been keeping his powder dry.. so to speak... for the 3rd place play off. Unfortunately we just don't have the depth in the squad in this tournament ... the likes of Buhagiar are just not up to this level.

Most of what we have always had, only difference is Spain & Barcelona changed the way football was played & no longer was the fastest, fittest & strongest the main thing in football, now Technical skills is what is required, along with the physical attributes. We as a nation has never had great technical players bar a very, very rare few.

No what team we put out there last night we would have struggled either way, last night showed the gulf in quality between us and South Korea.

It was no contest, no matter what tactics or how fit you are we technically looked incapable of matching them even the physical side we could not take advantage as they had that covered.

Credit to South Korea as they looked a quality side, the No.14 could be a gun very special talent.

Onwards to Uzbekistan on Saturday, which will be the biggest game for Australian youth football since 2008.

I think the game exposes the depth issues we have all levels, once our best players are not available Australia looks exposed with the lack of quality.

Need our best available for Saturday if we to stand a chance.

True... the last Asian Cup case in point. No Mooy, Boyle, Arzani and Rogic (and an in form Taggart)... we struggled.

You could also throw De Silva and Armenakis into that mix. There is a decent cohort of talent in this age group. The main problem which is well documented is the amount of game time against quality opposition these players are getting at their respective clubs.

Returning from injury: Arzani, Iredale, Francois?
Not rated probably because of Arnold wanting P & P players.

It's this bullshit myth of Australians as natural athletes.  AFL and NRL are lucky they don't have to play anyone else that matters, or on the case of AFL anyone at all.
