So 1.024M on 7 and 339k on Fox fark But that number will drop massively as the games go on.

Wait till you see Foxtel ratings for A league - wow lower than if crowd was watching. See mediaweek Twitter feed.

At this rate Fox are going to pay out the A League and walk. Well I think we can say we have hit virtual zero in terms of public interest.

I didn’t even realise the CCM vs MCY match was on so early last night but surely those figures are wrong.
Those numbers were unthinkable a few years back and with no crowds, something just doesn’t add up.

With record numbers of people staying in those are truly horrible numbers and reinforces the belief that nobody cares anymore.
by contrast Richmond v Carlton on Thursdsy night was the highest rating footy broadcast since 2009!

Could be codes hit harder than Football by the impending implosion of Foxtel.

The reality is that football likely will likely have a hard landing but there’s next to no chance a govt will bankroll it, whereas Rugby League is in a stronger position to try that tactic.
Sports across the world will need to evolve as sports rights become far more complicated. The fragmentation of viewer habits and preferences are becoming more and more apparent each year.
Coronavirus will only likely see a speeding up of this process, which will see effects across all sectors well into the future.

No, Rugby League is in a far worse position because it barely exists as a participant sport, it exists as a TV product. Football might lose $30 mill TV money a year but people everywhere will still play it. Rugby League could lose $2-300 million a year and that will be pretty much it. AFL at least has strong participant and cultural influence in half of Australia.

All sports are going to be hit really hard, but you would have to think the rugby codes are most vulnerable, and their words so far shows they know it.

The numbers are shocking but probably not a real surprise as in Melbourne the AFL has been flooding the media with their stories so with Covid as well HAL didn’t get much airtime. Also guessing this was similar in NRL states. But this is also symptomatic of iHAL this season where they don’t seem to have a marketing Dept and even as a football fan I wasn’t sure when there were games.

They are no different to what they have been for weeks. 19k is pretty average for a BRI/NEW game and 9k is just the games they normally don't bother announcing. Twiiter trends indicated to me significant interest in the W-League Final and Sydney Derby. At over 1k tweets each that is on par with any NRL or AFL game that night, so there are people watching and engaging somewhere on a large scale.

Who knows what the reason is but to go from the numbers we used to get to this is startling. This is the chance currently to get more eyeballs on the league, but I agree that there’s next to no marketing going on and interest therefore drops further.

The Foxtel numbers are BS. The Sydney Derby proves it. 16k my backside.
They are either intentionally deflated or it simply does not even come close to reflecting the viewing pattern of football fans. 30k people would have attended that game live. There is no way, simply no way, that 16k viewership is correct.
