Not being from Melbourne but i think you are close to the mark here. Just shows how poor rectangular facilities are in Victoria. 

On another note Melbourne Storm play a trial match this weekend at a rectangular Casey fields. Will be interesting to see how that goes.

If WU has to pay a heap of money to play at a particular venue for a couple of seasons, then that is a non-option.  That ain't going to happen.

Couple of great weeks on the track. Still an ageing squad that will need a fair whack of turnover in the preseason but the signs are good again.

I still don't think Rudan is the right man though

Massive last few weeks ahead for them though, Perth away, Sydney away and 2 Melbourne derbies, only 'easy' fixture is hosting Wanderers but even Wanderers look like a battle with there improved form, not got much faith for them this season and there squad would need a fair reboot for next season due to the age of it

Gulum, MacDonald have departed. Durante is one of the top 5 fittest in the squad, Diamanti is the best player in the league, Jertec can't get a game, Kone is injured again and Berisha will score the most goals this season, 2nd atm.
Everyond else is young or in their primes. It's not the squad WU started with. Fans cannot accept this major change in their squad.

WU started with an old slow team and has developed into a younger faster team.
Every team needs a balance between old and young and experienced leaders in key positions.I think WU are getting closer to the best balance.
Berisha, Diamantti and Durante is a good spine.Burgess stepping up has been a huge plus.
At the start of the season,I thought they would struggle later in the season with older players struggling to stay fit and keep up with the pace of games.They have changed up the team now.They have gone through their lull and look stronger.If they can stay in the six with the tough run home they have,they will be difficult to beat.

Thought Lustica and Pasqualj combined well yesterday, went about their work tidily. Hope to see more of Pasquali.

When will the new stadium be ready and what will be its capacity?

With everything going on in the world right now, we might have a small delay. Our target was for it to be completed by our third or fourth season. But now with COVID-19, I’d say closest to the fourth season, meaning 2022/23. But we’ll have a clearer opinion within the next few months. We remain optimistic that work will be able to begin by the end of the year, assuming things go well with the virus. Our new ground will be a fantastic facility that fits 15-18,000 people and it will be the only privately owned stadium within the A-League.

Could you tell us your opinion on the potential of a second division?

I’m all for it and we need to have a second division just as they do in the rest of the world, yet I feel we’re not quite there yet. It would be disastrous if we were to rush this because if this move were to fail then the sport would end up in an even worse position than it is right now. The most important issue we need to deal with is the lack of appropriate facilities. On the one hand, you’ve got these big stadiums with no atmosphere and a great maintenance cost such as the Suncorp in Brisbane and on the other there’s small grounds in the state leagues that lack the qualifications to host games of the highest level.

Coach's bullying led to mental illness, claims team manager

The A-League's newest club is being sued by its former team manager, who claims persistent bullying by the head coach - including being directed to wash the other man's dirty laundry - contributed to a mental illness.

The A-League's newest club is being sued by its former team manager, who claims persistent bullying by the head coach – including being directed to wash the other man's dirty laundry – contributed to a mental illness.In an action filed with the Federal Circuit Court this week, the former team manager is seeking $120,000 compensation plus penalties from WMG Football Club Ltd, owners of A-League newcomers Western United.
Reporting directly to head coach Mark Rudan, the former team manager started with the club in June last year ahead of its inaugural season, holding responsibility for the team's playing kit and as an intermediary for travel, accommodation and training arrangements.
In his general protections claim, he alleges Rudan bullied him on 13 separate occasions between July and November, before he resigned in early December and took leave "due to a mental disability" from December 23.
Included among the bullying claims are that Rudan allegedly yelled at, swore at and abused the former team manager in front of others, and demanded he perform work beyond his role such as washing his "soiled" clothes and bed sheets, and running "personal" shopping errands.
The former team manager claims his employment – allegedly on a fixed-term basis until June next year – "ceased" on February 13.He also in his claim details five employment complaints relating to safety concerns and issues around his role, hours and treatment by the head coach, which he conveyed to the club's general manager, football director and a club director.
After allegedly sending a director a "confidential" email that listed his complaints, he claims Rudan confronted him the following day and told him he had no right to "question my management skills".The former team manager claims he "suffered mental illness" as a result of the alleged bullying and the employer's responses to his employment complaints.
WMG Football Club Ltd is yet to file a defence, but a spokesperson told Workplace Express that it denies the claim "and in particular notes that the person resigned from his employment".
"Since the matter is currently before the courts, the club will not be making any further comment at this stage," he said.
The Victorian-based club is currently in its first season in the A-League, but has been suspended since March due to COVID-19, along with other professional sporting competitions.
The former team manager is seeking about $110,000 in compensation for lost past and future income, a further $20,000 for pain and suffering, and maximum penalties for breaching the prohibitions on taking adverse action on the basis of discriminatory attributes under 351(1) or exercising a workplace right under 340(1).
The court action follows unsuccessful conciliation conducted by FWC Deputy President Nicholas Lake.Arthur Hambas of McDonald Murholme is acting for the former team manager.
The matter is set down for a directions hearing on July 7.

None of this is a surprise. Other than the club owners didn’t do their background checks properly - perhaps (and less surprisingly) a compliant sports press played “mates rates”  and didn’t out inappropriate behaviours when they could have which might have avoided this. 

The club is dodgy as all get up from top to bottom. 

Patrick Antelmi from Sydney United signed for Western United during the week. 

Yet to be officially announced.

Still have not yet made the first move to applying for planning permission for the proposed stadium.

There is never going to be a stadium & there never was.

Don’t think that was the case but it is hard to see it being built anytime in the medium term.

The saving grace may well be government spending to boost the economy, which would see infrastructure funding boosted and giving this a stronger chance of having atleast the required infrastructure built. 

I'm not so sure, the whole WU deal was a real estate play and I am sure the council wont hand over the land for development without the stadium so once covid and real estate market stabilizes expect it to go ahead

Thoughts on WU’s first season given the results of the last few weeks? 

Well, Rudan gave relatively new players a start or gave players a debut this season. T Uskok, O Dillon, J Skotadis, T Iradukunda, R Scott,
D Pierias,  J Cavallo, S Pasquali, L Duzel, V Yuel and Stama. Must of forgot someone. Even Burgess hadn't played alot of A League either.
The only elder statesmen at this club are their three best, one being arguably the best ever import to grace our fields in the history of the A League.
Gaffa even gave Calver the captaincy when Diamanti came off against Sydney fc. He was a bench player at Sydney fc.
The gaffa has given everyone a run, even the janitor.

The start of the year to now are light years apart in terms of the squad. Has been interesting to watch things evolve.

As for off the park, yes it’s a mess and won’t be solved until they find some stability in terms of a home to play their matches. Being so nomadic hasn’t helped them at all.

Given the recent statement from the CEO seemed to suggest they were looking to play matches at a venue closer to Melbourne next year, the only football specific ground that fits the bill would be Knights Stadium, but that’s far from ideal in terms of access. The show grounds option would be an outside chance, but it’s too far from much of the market they are meant to represent. 

They’ve been fun to watch on the field, their fans are pretty good too. Just a Shame about the stadium Situation, all over the ducking place

There’s a lot of major approvals for projects being pursued at the moment. There’s pressure to approve major developments so that there will be a quick bounce back in the construction sector after COVID.

Im really surprised they still  haven’t started the planning process for the stadium because they will get a good run at the moment.

Some games again out at Geelong and Mars (and Jupiter and Saturn), although, they are keen on playing most home matches at  Whitten Oval
for the next campaign. It is alot closer to eventual Tarneit Stadium in the future.

I still reckon they should have gone with my Showgrounds idea (I'm sure I'm not the only one who had the idea).

Only needed one temporary stand and grass laid on some of that truck loading area, back of house facilities for players and media could be adapted from the existing buildings on the bottom right, marquees for corporates on that side also. Already has lighting but that may need some adaptation, but aside from that would be miles better as a short to medium term solution than the growing collection of AFL ovals they've been using; public transport runs right to the door if they can get the Showgounds station running, and even the existing seats are already their colours!
