This match has a bit of a narrative. Will Mariners continue their decent start or will it be two losses in a row against the dominant Sydney fc. If mariners can get something from this match you know it’ll be worth watching

The overseas players will have had more training to blend and run in a bit more fitness.... wonders aloud if he starts and for how long will Matty get on the park as the overseas players are all in the front third...

Simon to come on in the last 15 minutes and get a RED for his challenges on all the ex-Mariners players (Redmayne/Wilkinson/Buhagiar/Caceres (and Heward-Belle who has to replace Redmayne)

I wasn’t stoked with us signing Bouman as he looked so poor with the Olyroos, however he’s been fantastic thus far since joining.

Alou Kuol has 2 in 4 this season.
3 of the 4 players who have scored more than 1 goal this season are U23 strikers in Kuol, DWH and D'Aggers (who has only played one game).

while Sydney looked far more threatening, the Mariners were more desperate in defence and deserved the win....it's good to see them NOT on the bottom for a change.

Staj n co built the club from the ground up in 2 years with possibly the smallest budget.

To think the only goal the Mariners have conceded so far was a scrappy deflection. Decent defence and good keeping. Admittedly the opponent has been less effective on the offensive.

Good to see the Mariners punching above their weight again.
Their defence has been the issue for 5 or so years with conceding stupid goals so credit to Staj for shoring this up so far.

Is Rowles strengthening his Olyroos claim?

+xIs Rowles strengthening his Olyroos claim? With Deng and Souttar locked-on as our starting CB pairing, there are 2 available places for the back-up CBs. On form you’d have to say Rowles is currently more deserving than Mourdoukoutas and Laws. I still rate Dylan Ryan higher based on his Olyroos performances but it depends how much game time MV give him.

Atm, you’d say defense is Souttar, Deng, rowles, strain, atkinson, Gersbach, maybe they go with overage defender like grant.

+xStaj n co built the club from the ground up in 2 years with possibly the smallest budget. Alen Stajic is a professional no nonsense, no bullshit coach. He is building a team from the ground up. This man was harshly done by when he was sacked by Gallop. He is the future for Australian football and the sooner FA realise that the better. We can’t afford to lose this kind of talent.

Great to see the Mariners doing well, they needed to as any more bad seasons would be very hard for the players the fans that have supported them for this long.
Can they keep this up? They have every chance they can as I have a feeling this season they appear different, spirited, disciplined, hard working and most important they appear stronger mentally and don't seem to buckle under pressure.
For all Sydney huffed and puffed they had little answers in the end, the best chances came from Kosta Barbarouses who seems he's confidence has shot, if he was a young player who he get the amount of chances to get it right? Doubt it.
The Mariners playing a low block 4-4-2 that has conceded 1 goal in the first 4 games is quite effective too, and Staj made the right subs this time around too.
Sydney need a fresh approach and need the kid Nieuwenhof back.

Very reminiscent of the Arnie Mariners teams.
