Looks like fox is giving up on the Australia national teams A/L next?

Just means the rights will be sold separately to the A-League and rights to qualifiers now belongs to FA and not AFC.........but sure, the sky is falling.

I would have thought the national teams is a valuable part of the rights.
Also, wouldn't the APL want to get into bed with the NTs, and have both on the one platform?
Does it really make sense to split the two?
Are all football fans going to go chasing both if they end up on two different streaming services?
For example, if the NTs end up on Optus, but the A-League ends up on Stan, a heap of football fans already on Optus might be happy with that football diet and not go paying for yet another streaming service to watch the A-League.
Early days, I'd say Lowy used the lure of the NTs to get the broadcaster interested in the A-League.
Around 6 or so years ago, the club owners were convinced that they weren't getting their fair share of the broadcast rights, and now we have a situation where the two might be split - I can't see that helping anyone.

If only a FTA channel bought AL rights then wouldn’t mind paying for streaming service for NT games

The owners wanted an independent A league so this is part of the deal.

Will get to see the true value of the NTs vs the clubs.

Whether or not it makes sense to have them both on the same broadcaster is irrelevant.
They have separate owners, so there will be separate deals with separate contracts.
Would it be ideal for the APL products to be on the same broadcaster as the NT products? Absolutely.
However it's not as simple as bundling both together anymore. Even if a single broadcaster wants both, they will need to negotiate one contract with the APL and negotiate another contract with the FA. It's not an impossibility, it's just more complicated than it used to be.

Getting the WCQ rights is a pretty big deal

The two could still be bundled together, there would just be two parties that each broadcaster would negotiate with. the aleague has surely been testing the waters for a while now and could chime in with FFA negotations that broadcasters can get the elague for XXmillion on top of internationals

Important National team games should be on FTA anyway, so subscriptions shouldn't be a huge money maker. Interesting that Matildas would be driving interest and not because of marketing but because they are producing world class players and a world class team, important lesson for the A-League and Socceroos.

This is huge news .... and should by and large fund the national teams...

This is significant for Football Australia as it would help free up their coffers to get the funds they need to run the national teams including the youth teams as well.

The Socceroos less so but especially the Matildas should be an attractive proposition to buyers given the World Cup is two years away.

Wonder if the Australia/FA Cup could be bundled with the national team games? Or whether they’d want to keep that separate as well (Unlike the A League, the cup competition does remain under the direction of the FA right?) 

The Socceroos/Matilidas have always been the FFA's cash cow & even more so now that the A League is someone else's problem. 

Should have split the sale of it from the A League a long time ago especially now that the A League is slightly on the nose.  

would not be surprised to see Sports Flick go after them... would be a great way to start your streaming platform UCL + socceroos quals.

I haven't enjoyed the A-League so much in years.

Every game (pretty much) is competitive with so many interesting young players coming through.

Imagine if you through in a real quality import or two amongst them? Do away with the multiple dud imports we seem to engage and give more locals a go.

Do you mean more like Diamanti,Castro and Ninkovic or bigger names?

You will usually struggle to get any bigger name players when those players will get huge money playing in other countries. The A League just can’t compete with those salaries, and nor should we chase such deals.

Part of what has made this AL season so good IS the balance being right.

There are so many players (in almost every team) that I'm enjoying watching, ranging from the Diamantis and Castros through to the young emerging Aussies.

Who does Roar have that’s anywhere near that quality? If we a couple like that just watch the overall quality rise and interest skyrocket.

Bigger name if only one, or if two in the quality like you mentioned for every team. 

I'm not referring to quality. It's been a great season thus far in that regard. 

I'm talking about ratings & crowds which in this context it's good that it is separate from the Socceroos.
