It would be nice to have seen the streaming numbers. Socceroos on secondary channel beat the NRL on a Thursday night. NRL didn't even make the top 20.

Interesting article on 7Plus streaming numbers: 7plus sets new Australian streaming record More than 170 million minutes streamedThe first day of competition in the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 saw the Seven Network’s 7plus platform achieve a gold medal of its own: the record for the biggest day of live streaming in Australian television history. An extraordinary 172 million minutes were streamed on 7plus yesterday, shattering the previous record of 86 million for the State of Origin rugby league match on 14 July this year. The 7plus number does not include co-viewing data, which will be released later today, while the State of Origin number includes co-viewing. The 7plus total covered 149.8 million live streamed minutes and 22.2 million video-on-demand minutes. As a result, 7plus captured a record-setting 93% share of commercial free-to-air live streaming, and a 79.7% share of total minutes (live plus VOD). Yesterday also marked a record for 7plus in terms of advertising revenue booked in one day. Seven West Media Chief Digital Officer, Gereurd Roberts, said: “We knew the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 would be a massive event across both digital and broadcast, but the numbers on 7plus have exceeded all of our expectations and set a new standard for streaming in Australia. “Tokyo 2020 will be the biggest digital media event Australia has ever seen. If we are setting new streaming numbers after just one day, imagine what the next fortnight or so is going to look like. “Australians have really embraced the innovative and incredibly comprehensive coverage on Channel 7, 7mate and 7plus, with a viewer experience and features that have never been seen here before. We’re delighted with how people are responding to our coverage,” he said.

Optus will be opening the Blue Label stuff as they purchased the Women's world cup for a tiny fraction for what & paid for the Olympics...

It's the Olympics and everyone has watched everything there is to offer on the other streaming avenues. What would you expect the numbers to be. Remember Civic and lockdowns.

Source: 7PR What these show is aside from FTA ratings... all other traditional methods of measuring media coverage are meaningless... A youtube view could be anything from a second to an entire match... often a viewer today will watch serval things al once and view multi streams multi times ... Danny Townsend, in the vid he did explained in part what APL are doing in this space and his comment that most sports codes in Australia are a long way behind on this as are the broadcasters .. IMO these 7 numbers will change forever how media analysis will look at non FTA views...

The ABC the other day in discussing the Olympics described the Matilda's as """Box Office Gold"".. CBS & Optus must be as I posted above getting out the Blue label stuff ... Also what a lead into the CBS media contract...

Just realised the women’s gold medal match for football is on 12:00 Friday. So doubt that will get good ratings how disappointing

TV Wrap: Olympics breaks 2m mark on Sunday after Seven’s best weekly OzTam ratings shareAugust 2, 2021 10:25 by Zanda Wilson A weekend full of gold medals for Australia delivered ratings gold for Seven, as the network celebrated a dominant 49.8% network share in the week ending Saturday, 31 July. The momentum showed no signs of slowing on Sunday, with the Night session becoming the first of the Olympics to break the 2 million milestone, as 2.070 million metro viewers tuned in. The session included Aussie Rowan Browning competing in the 100 metres semis, as well as Brandon Starc competing in the high jump final, and while neither were successful, it followed a medal-filled day for Australia. https://mumbrella.com.au/tv-wrap-olympics-breaks-2m-mark-on-sunday-after-sevens-best-weekly-oztam-ratings-share-696275

Obviously there ain't too much love left for NEWS/Fox on this forum, but just for old times sake, here are their latest financial figures: https://investors.newscorp.com/static-files/0516b3f6-6d30-4a16-9d39-fdd631d69b3bWe also saw record subscriber growth at Foxtel, where, at the end of June, our paid streaming subscribers reached over 2 million, an increase year-on-year of 155 percent. That sterling performance has clearly given us much optionality as we consider Foxtel’s future, which is certainly bright, given that revenues rose 33 percent in the Fourth Quarter.

Olympics Night session takes 1.424m metro viewers, Australia aims for record medal haul
https://mumbrella.com.au/olympics-night-session-takes-1-424m-metro-viewers-australia-aims-for-record-medal-haul-697119
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics continues to deliver big metro ratings for Seven, with the Night session on Thursday reaching 1.424 million viewers. The Night session was the #1 rating program overall, as the Kookaburras lost to Belgium in the gold medal hockey match, with the Australians taking home the silver. 1.087 million metro viewers tuned in to the Evening session which saw Australia’s dramatic but unsuccessful fight back in its bronze medal football match against the United States, with The Matildas missing out on a medal in a 4-3 nail-biter.
