I would guess Fox Sports are hurting big time that the Matilda's are breaking attendance and viewing records every day. Serves 'em right.

According to the commentators, the quarters, so another win and we're in new territory.

I like the false 9 / twin 10s attack we’ve moved too, especially with Foord absolutely killing anyone in front of her. We’ve looked great on the counter against more ball-dominant teams. If Kerr isn’t fully fit, that’s a really tough choice for Tony to now make.

I also like the fact we’ve come this far as a team, relying on everyone in the starting lineup and now have the option of adding one of the best players in the world.

Unfortunately, the Danes had us figured out in the first 20 mins and should be kicking themselves for not converting their opportunities. They just had to look up the international coaching handbook under A for Australia, where it says “press to force immediate and repeated turnovers”.

2019 - R16 (Norway)
2015 - QF (Japan)
2011 - QF (Sweden)
2007 - QF (Brazil)
2003 - winless in groups
1999 - winless in groups
1995 - winless in groups (and 3/4 progressed)
1991 - knocked out of OFC qualifying by NZ

That's the entire history of womens world cups.

A strong press will break down most teams in womens football. It's not easy to maintain though. I thought our energy was poor in the first 20, obviously the goal changed all that.

Another game where we didnt need to have the ball, its clear as daylight we are doing this deliberately and using the space to play on transition either from deep or if we win the ball higher up the pitch.
Again my worry is the what happens when we are forced to make the play and do they have the patience to break down defences (this is an symptom of all national teams men and female) where we struggle to create chances against deep block, stingy defences.

I thought Foord was outstanding, her movement and ability in 1v1s was excellent and Fowler providing that creativity with both goals especially the first one which was delightful Rogic-esque.

The momentum is clearly building, exciting times ahead.

What about Fowler's little dink to van Egmond to lay it off to Raso for the second?

That pass that Fowler hit to Foord was mint but that little dink was sublime. Threaded the needle.

Cooney Cross is a boss. She is so calm and her distribution is wonderful. Could watch her all night.

Gorry terrific as usual.

Fowler fantastic again.

Had a blast at the game. Can't wait to watch the replay

Off to Brisbane next week to watch us pine the cheese eating surrender monkeys unless Morocco can do us a huge favour.

Both our goals. Just sublime. Highlights showed how much Denmark did early. Sorta fortunate they didn't slot the shots to the corners of the goal. Can't afford to allow that in next games.

Amazing game last night. Once the nerves settled we were all over the Danes. The crowd really got involved. I reckon there were 74k Aussies in that crowd. The roar for Foords goal was deafening. The crowd was good fun from hard core to passionate kids. One girl cracked everyone up yelling out Gustavsson needed a new brain when he subbed Foord because she was disappointed her hero was off. Awesome atmosphere.

We are getting to the point of the tournament now where small errors will be punished. France were better than us in that friendly, so we have to be on our game this time around. I'd like to see us take the game by the scruff a bit more.

Still not a fan of Tony. His game management could be a bit better. Up 2-0 with 10 to go is the when you start giving some players some rest and give others game time. These small things are key in a tournament like this.

yes kudos to a great team effort, they are all working for each other that is plain to see.
As I've said TG needs them more than they need him imo, zimbos I agree he not using subs earlier always makes me wonder whats going through his head.
Is it lack of confidence ? we're ahead 70 mark and Danes chasing 1 goal that would change the game and subs attackers not defenders for eg.....

A good build up coming to the pointy end of a tournament.
Get Kerr amongst it and its just a bonus whereas without her Foord EvG Fowler have stepped up, especially Foord.
Foord has been the most effective I've seen over many games where she normally loose's ball in good position and breaks down the opportunity.
Young Fowler for her age plays like a vet the vision and instinctive release of the ball.
Catley Gorry KCC are soldiers every team needs.
As mentioned hand it to the Danes they settled from the get go, had some nice passages of play but just couldn't find the finish at times in good position.
Onwards and forwards, hope they embrace the coming QF and home pressure.

Was quite impressive the way they didn’t panic under pressure at the back

Hopefully the players are not going to be too exhausted. Changes late and the players covered a lot of ground last night so must be knackered.

Fowler was the "most improved" player last night for me.... Was screaming at her to turn and release Foord in  space on the left hand side early in the frist half yet she seems reluctant to turn anyway other than shielding with her dominant foot.... But both times she released for goal (and both goals were 100% "her's" for mine) she did so.to the left... well done Mary. Foord and Rasso again just absolute bosses....

Favourite moment of the match was late in the final 5 or so when Ellie lashed at an attempt on goal, fucked it up and gave a little grin to say "oopsies... by bad"......

Thats the one pleasing thing, at least for me, in regards to the womens game this year.....

European clubs creating professional training environments for women players, proper competitions, champions league formats etc etc now means our girls arent reliant on just 10 rounds of W-League and then slogging around in either the NPL or going to some ratty US college, for the balance of the season...

The goals scored, the goalkeeping displays, the technical control and passing is 1000000% improvement on even 5-10 years ago....  Even die hard football tragics I know, who previously were very dismissive of womens football (and in some respect I understood) are saying that some of the play on display is now just "football", not "women's football", just "football" Its just going to get better and better the more money European and Asian clubs pump into the game (and if Morocco get through even the Arab world will start taking notice) I just hope we dont get left behind like the US.

That was also sublime mate, top player is Fowler Australian football would be more healthy if we could develop more players like her too.

Great point about professionalism. It's only going to get better.

Does make some of the performance by our girls that are still playing A league in front of 200 people and a dog that are killing it in front of 40k - 80k even more impressive.

Hunt in particular.

Yeah he is a clown with his substitutions. Zimbo and yourself and others are bang on.

Vine coming on was fair enough but take say Egmond off and put Chidiac on.

If we go behind and need game changers then they need minutes under their belt.

Too late now though.

Hunt was great.... As for TG, I though Vine coming on late was OK, as was bringing Kerr on to just get a bit of a run into her legs before next match... Palkinghorn to "close the game" is the most tired lame ass 'tactic" ever the guy talks about "tournament tactics" but shit he is clueless....

Just watched the first goal again ..... what a bloody pass by Fowler... still admiring it :)
