As an aside, someone mentioned in an earlier post that you can't have teams entered in different levels of the pyramid. Two clubs in Qld have just merged, Moreton Bay United who played in NPL in 2023 and Albany Creek Excelsior who played in FQPL1 in 2023. FQPL1 is the league immediately below NPL. Although the two clubs have merged, FQ have decided that the new club, Moreton City Excelsior, can still have a team in NPL and a team in FQPL1 in 2024. So much for a pyramid!

That Brisbane Strikers can be effective owners of Brisbane United but still plan on playing in NPL is another interesting one

I do look forward to finding out if FA are going to allow this, given they've told everyone they have to give up their current League

It seems (only informing from what is posted here) that FQ are giving the perception that they are control freaks.  I don't know and can't genuinely speculate from the information available.

If such a situation has some truth to it then maybe it exemplifies why football associations at all levels must be democracies and not autocracies.  The clubs and associations that make up the membership must retain and exercise control over those who are elected/hired to represent them and their interests.

An autocracy that dictates everything downwards will always end in disaster as it will ultimately impose the view and will of a single demagogue.  People will be forced out or will walk as unpopular policies get pushed down.  The show falls apart over time as people take their shit and walk away.

A democracy that dictates everything upwards will always be rowdy and exhibit dysfunctional tendencies, but will self-repair and keep moving.  Those that refuse to involve themselves with the hoi polloi, while time changes the world around them, will eventually freeze themselves out, isolate and fail.  The mob will steer all over the road but they will get to their destination - eventually.

A single entity dictating downward at national level would be a disaster.  I am amazed that I see support for the concept from supporters of clubs that claim they were frozen out and who survived by taking shelter with the State Associations.

Its the end of October...is the FA stalling?? Surely they've got the right mechanisms in place to come a final decision???

This is getting awfully frustrating for fans!!!

The simple answer to this mismanagement by the Fa is, James Johnson cannot lace Peter V'Landys' shoes.
Take the covid era, Peter insisted that the players go into a hub & play at one stadium so they do not postpone matches & they continued to play on television. He got the better of the Qld state government. Even the Prime Minister could not control State Gov's decision making.
Johnson cowtows to the 'all-powerful' Apl, & allows Townsend to postpone a multitude of matches in a given season.

Phase 4, conclusion March 24, comp may or may not start in 2024-25 due to complicated legal issues ending in a stand off with certain soccer federations...you know it as well.

I’m at a loss how the FA run - you’d think by now a lot more info would be leaked or snippets be getting out of at all they were excited about this new important and much needed competition.
Very deflating at this stage.

I heard bits of this on 3XY yesterday also... FA have met on Thursday to vote on NST clubs, announcement either today or tomorrow.

One way or another this whole thing can soon be put to bed.

I'd reckon the vote would more be a yay/nay for the final package for the NST rather than voting on individual clubs. More likely they would have been presented with the final selection and just need to give the green light. Maybe presented with a couple of options (eg 10 team / 12 team), but in both options the clubs would have been already decided. Board members aren't going to be looking over all the proposals for each club. Chances are this vote would just be a formality and they know they have the majority to get this thing going.

That makes sense..... Which would, I guess, indicate that at least 10 clubs have been "approved" otherwise not much to really vote on.... Either way, a nervy couple of days until some sort of "answer" is given.

10 clubs is still fantastic and will be cause for celebration. Let's just hope they don't do something stupid like call it the B-League.

Side note.  FFA never published a list of applicants - this was just hashed together by people online based on which clubs individually confirmed. We're probably all expecting a 10 team league from the 14 or so that were confirmed, but don't be surprised either if there's a club in the final list that everyone thinks "wait, they applied?"

If it ends up being 10 teams then hopefully the FA also puts out a clear roadmap for yearly expansion through on-field promotion from the NPL (via a resumption of national play-offs), until it hits 16 or so teams.

The medium-term goal for club football in this country should be two nationwide tiers of 16 teams each, playing 30-round regular seasons, with the NPL leagues sitting below that, also playing a season of that length (as is now done in NSW). And all connected via pro-rel.

A-League would have to move to winter, but they should do this anyway. Climate change is making summer football more and more intolerable and the clear air argument is bunkem. We're supposedly in the sporting dead zone of the calendar now that AFL and NRL have finished their seasons, and the A-League still isn't getting any media attention.

Take with a hefty grain of bullshit

https://twitter.com/smfcmike/status/1719308542916919375/photo/1

10 teams. (NSW) APIA, Marconi, Olympic, SU, Gong (VIC) Avondale, Preston, Souths (QLD) Sunshine Coast (TAS) South Hobart

18 round H/A+finals

That would make a double boilover: no Knights, no Brisbane United (with a lot of eyes on footbal QLD you'd think)

let's say if this list is true, based on club location etc, it looks like its only the clubs that coughed up the cash.

money is the only reason why you'd be accepted into the NSD.

I agree, let's wait for the actual announcement. Even if this list is accurate, it may not tell the whole story. If this is the initial list, the FA will definitely need to outline the pathways for other clubs to join. On it's own, this will become pretty boring pretty quickly. Maybe we'll see a staggered introduction over the next couple seasons for some of the other clubs that weren't quite as ready as the initial selection.
That being said, the main surprise/disappointment on that list would be Avondale over Knights. The others seem like fairly logical predictable choices. You get the feeling South Hobart is more about having another state involved to make the comp look less NSW/VIC heavy. Would be a massive shame if there is no representation from Brisbane or Adelaide. It would be an even bigger shame if the main reason those aren't represented was due to problematic state feds.

Yeah thats why I have doubts about the validity of this list. Avondale, as far as I know, ONLY meets the financials apart from that nothing on this list applies to them...

If those 10 x clubs are the "first cab off the rank" to be followed in 1-2 years by 4-6 others who just need a little time to get sorted I will jump on board with glee, otherwise this will be a giant flop.  As much as I am hungry for pro/rel from the very frist season, if it takes 1-3 season sto get everyone up to speed so be it.....

None of the NPL clubs would have anything to do with Simon Hill mate, not sure how he would know anyone, unless this has come from FA themselves.... Word is they are very tight lipped at the moment so all these "rumours" doping the rounds are just the same old Chinese Whispers.
