I'd say the u23s are quite technical as well and probably the first generation to go through the curriculum pathway, and I agree the talent below that look quite technical too so clearly it will take time for some of those players to that transition into a national team fold once the current Roos either drop their level or the young guys play at a similar level to them and eventually take over.

Thats why match minutes at club level is very important for young players.

No disrespect to the young players whom some are very talented but unless your a starting player and in form then you should not be in the national team, that's why we have junior national teams and even a u23 team for this reason so they prepared for national team football.

Im starting to get annoyed the bar has been lowered just to make the national team, it should be earned and not through a free pass.

In time the age profile of the national team will change but where they are in club football will determine how many and how quickly it will change over time.

I think that Arnie should keep his job, as there is no real candidate to take over. This is not to say I was very disappointed at the Asian Cup outcome, or how we played in the games.

Even against Uzbekistan they were over-running us in the final 15 minutes, and we only just hung on for the draw. So it was no surprise that South Korea did what they did and sprung a victory from the jaws of defeat.

We played scared, and suffered the consequences. The lead up games were similarly dour, except for the Palestine victory. Even then  we took a while to get going.

The ethos of the National Squad needs a fresh change. Arnie showed in the World Cup that he can instill that in the players. We need it again. Whilst this round of qualifying should go through unworried, the next phase will be a concern if the cobwebs are not sorted out by then.

BT, all due respect to Tilio no matter lacking match fitness is a good player when the team plays him in.
GA's game doesn't exploit his game enough which is frustrating And he has some maturity compared to Irakunda.
Now I'm not saying having picked Irankunda would be wrong or Kuol BUT GA isn't a risk taker, his SFC tenure was all about playing known players rightly or wrongly thats his game.
He hardly introduced good academy players till 80min on.....and the cycle continues.

Pasquali, sure I get your pov but considering our current crop there is nothing to lose imo throwing in and testing the likes of Kuol/Irakunda.
They are green ofcourse but there is no rule to wait till he or anyone think its the right time to pick them, common practice, we lack so much and always have re X factors.
Whats wrong with giving it a go, wait and wait till one is ready, some NT's can afford in doing so due to talent numbers, we don't have the time forever And its worth a shot but its all about damage control.

Irankunda has started lots of AL games this season though. Arnold selected Tilio who has been nothing but a bench player at celtic - and no way Tilio has the talent of Irankunda

Mostly how to get the most out of Robertson. Also just that we can use O'Neill, Nisbet, Holman, Nieuwenhof over Irvine and Baccus. Certainly promoting Yengi and Iredale who can actually play with the ball. They won't all make it but the U20s have some interesting talents but more so just how they showed better technical skills in the U20 Asian Cup and that Portugal tournament. 

G Kuol got minutes and shot on target v Argentina at Wcup & Irankunda is a starter for Adelaide- with skills that all other Roos players can only dream of having. Arnold definitely fucked up not taking at least 1 of them. But Arnold is happy as long as he has Duke who can’t even strike a ball with his feet to hit a barn door

yes that are - lets wait and see as they mature and picked, under the pump in NT games will be their wake up audition time for all to see.

Kuol and Irankunda aren't even starters for their clubs. Just because they look good in a highlight package does not mean they are ready for the national team. 

End of the day he come out and made big statements we're here to win. I was never convinced once with that side in Qatar only the first half against Korea maybe the rest of the games we looked bang average and minnow nations we're playing better football then us.

What was the point of Fornaroli? ok he's banging them in for MCFC, playing a COMPLETELY different style to our game.. I thought he was good but didnt match the system. 

For the life of me I cant understand why Kuol or Irankunda was not taken... these guys are the future... at least fucking take them. I could of easily seen Kuol or Irankunda come on with 10 to go and actually score.

All our under 20 squad is way more technical. 

Tilio is one who was tried and did not meet the system. Not due to his own skills but because his open 'running at opponent' attacking style was not supported and the structure left him isolated. I think Piscopo was given a partial run about the same time from memory. They are not the 'next generation' of technically gifted players but they showed enough to be capable of playing at an effective level with a team around them - they were both able to beat a man.

Any of our emerging technically gifted players will have to beat their opponent and set up Duke to score or outright score themselves before they will be accepted into Arnie's system and structure. They would be stifled like other players Arnie has tested.

Whatever it is I just hope the players as of yet ain't been doing it.

I'm just concerned how it's going to affect our technically better generation coming through. Maybe there are elements they can unlock. I fear the style caps a lot of our players' strengths or doesn't permit our better able players to be considered. 

I really like the 2023 performances. Where did that go to? We went back to the horrible WC qualifying style of passing it back and looking lost and disjointed for the vast majority.

Arnie works on the  tenet that is  axiomatic amongst  most coaches - that a strong defence is the cornerstone of success.

Arnie got to test players in his system.

They were not better at it than his preferred candidates but he did try them.

It just confirms to him that who he has chosen are the right people to play the way he wants.

Agreed. "I got the chance to test players". What? Test the same old players who have always had issues or are you referring to players like Bos? And by the way we played the testing has put us back at square one. There is a clear direction to go down post Olympics and hopefully we can start building towards that till then.

Arnold said he had 1 eye on the Asian cup and 2 on the world cup. I get that yet you can surely go all out for a 4 week tournament in season. He said he wanted to test players. It hardly happened. The cracks have started to reappear and we won't know much until the next round of qualifiers. 

With our low block struggle this preliminary round isn't exactly sorted just yet but should be within 6 weeks. 

I have been watching Socceroos games since the mid 1960s( before they were known as the Socceroos) so I have been watching the NT for nearly sixty years.Having seen the team miss out so many times on WC qualification-often getting to the last qualifying games-I am rapt that we have qualified for the last five WCs.When Rasic's boys qualifired for the 1974 finals it was like we had climbed Mt Everest and had reached the pinnacle of world football.

Those teams of the sixties,seventies ,eighties and nineties has some very accomplished footballers-Scheinflug,Abonyi,Utjenosovic,Rooney,Warren,Patikas,Yankos,Trimboli,Mitchell,Farina,Soper,Crino,Arnold and Kosmina to name but a few.It wasn't all hoofball and rugged tackling.

Arnie cops a lot of criticism for his style but uses the players talents and strengths to make them a difficult team to beat.

What is Arnie being so defensive when the heats get on? Its fine to answer the critics who question you tactics and personnel but to have a go at fans for having their say is disappointing to say at least.

Actually last time we trashed a coach that did well was pim and rhats when we got a holger, sure there might have been some shananigans about our world cup bid involved, but who in their right mind would want to coach us?
