I like our home kit ... but i was thinking maybe orange stripes instead of white?

and with our away kit ... i like the style ... but instead of the light blue surrounding the torso ... have purple ... and then with an orange trim around it

Personally i like the home kit. The alternate kit is so-so. I'd have to wait and see, we'd hardly ever where it anyway because none of the others clash. I was expecting horizontal stripes with dark purple/light purple, orange trim round the shoulders with dark purple sleeves, shorts and socks. That would've look brilliant.

Quote:
So Perth Glory coach Dave Mitchell and Vice Chairman Lui Giuliani have been refused entry into the Birmingham City Directors box on their scouting trip to the UK at the end of this week, due to Birmingham City’s hierarchy accusing Mitchell of making an illegal approach to striker Kevin Phillips. Surely this is a complete overreaction, as if they read the quotes from Mitchell they would see that he was quoted by reputable sections of the media as “not” having spoken to Phillips, his agent or Birmingham City, but that he would like to sign a player such as Phillips. Good to see one Blues fan on one of the UK websites state he cannot see the problem as Birmingham have themselves talked about players they want long before official approaches have been made. Whatever your view great publicity for the A league and Perth Glory.

Totally agree. If other clubs are allowed to sit it the directors box, why can't we!

Agreed.

But all this, saying we will have the strongest squad, is only on paper, and with the assumption that we will get no injuries lol

with coyne added in next to harnwell in defence, will surely give us one of the strongest defence's in the league, and then with burns in midfield along side shroj, and a quality strike partner for dadi, I honestly wouldnt be able to see any faults with the squad lol

Lets just hope that actually happens eyy .... who knows, we might not even get burns or coyne? lol ... so lets just wait and see

Burns, Shroj, Pele and Sikora would give us the strongest A-league midfield by far.
then wigth a marquee striker to partner Dadi we'd be awesome.
then with Tando between the sticks and Neville, Coyne, Harnwell, Griffiths/Sekolovski we'd be well on our way to the finals.
depth would be our only problem.

lol Both for sure, why not? :p

Mind you, I'm not all that sure over Jacob Burns, over what he would bring. Sure he was a wealth of Euro experience in different leagues, decent NT experience at many levels especially a number of caps with the Socceroos...

But in the end he's more your DM, regular CM type, so he won't be too creative for us. He may not even be that much better than the likes of Srhoj, when it comes down to it. But I don't mean that in a necessarily negative way - just reflecting how we can simultaneously talk up Euro based boys alot, while also perhaps underrating our home based boys. Srhoj spent alot of time in Romania too ofcourse and was well rated, playing for our NTs at youth level, an Olyroo and even plenty of NSL with the Brisbane Strikers at 17-19 years of age.

So year, pretty 'solid' I'd say, central midfield for sure.

But with Burns, we'd 'surely,' would require a quality creative midfielder or two, as the midfield group we have, as is, is not enough to creative or provide plenty of goals or service to Dadi and our Marquee - if the Maruee is a striker ofcourse.

BTW With Coyne - a reference point - when he transferred to Colchester from Luton in January 2008, Colchester paid a 'club record' 350,000... POUNDS, which works out to about AUD$800-900,000! But I DO feel that despite it only being just over a year in real terms, that his valuation may've dropped somewhat, DESPITE his rapid rise in the Socceroo ranks. Just given his age now, that he's already at his peak/peaked and that he's been in and out of a League One side. He now travels alot for international games too, which can be a negative for the club. Also that 1 and a half seasons of his current contract have already passed - so he's approaching halfway into his contract.

Hopefully we're not asked to pay up anymore than, ummmm, POUNDS100-150,000 or AUD$300-$400,000? AUD400,000 would STILL be quite steep though. Amongst the most expensive transfer fees an Aussie club has ever paid. AUD200-250,000 would be more reasonable by my estimation?

I would be so happy if we got chris coyne .... and actually i think would prefer chris coyne over jacob burns.

Reason being .... coyne is a strong centreback .. and has played there well with the socceroos ... with coyne and harnwell in the centre of defence, i honestly can see nothing getting past those 2.

If coyne does require a transfer fee ... i assume it wouldnt be that much surely?

Mind you ... yet saying i would prefer chris coyne over jacob burns, I would still be content with burns at glory haha ... lets hope maybe we can even sign both! now that would be awesome.

they haven't been playing him all that often so im sure they would be happy to mutually terminate the contract also. for an aging league one defender its not like he wouldnt command a high transfer fee anyways.

Coyne will opt out of his contract after the world cup.
His club treat him like shit anyway.
it would make no sense for him to stay after 2010.

I'd say he wouldn't want to move until after the world cup. He's finally making an impression where he is so I doubt he will move until after this next season/world cup.

Sorry I read one of the recent articles surrounding Coyne (Again) and it mentioned that he has 2 more years left on his contract, as of this month! So I presume that means the 09/10 season and 01/11 season with Colchester.

So, that means if we don't get him this season and went after him for the 2010/11 season, we'd STILL have to pay a transfer fee for him. Albeit the transfer fee might be a tad smaller, with less of the contract to run. Looks like when he transferred to Colchester in Jan of 08, he signed a 3 and a half year contract. #-o For us.

Oh well, I guess that means, as Coyney has kind of hinted, that we could still go after him now as it makes not much difference, cost wise, as to 'when' we opt to buy him, before of after the World Cup. By Coyney hinting, I mean he said, "I am not sure if it will be after the World Cup or before but I have always said I will come back and play in Australia.''

Get him for this season and we're guaranteed to get 2 more seasons out of him, than we, and Australia, otherwise may've (If we delayed a season or two) ala the Craig Moore since being at Roar scenario.

By reading this article again, I see not only has Coyne left the door ajar, he's given Glory more than a strong hint to go after him! It's in Sagey's court now, I guess.

So Coyne could well be in, going by his quotes in this couple weeks old article (Already posted elsewhere I know).

Frustrating with Coyne - Colchester are 10 points off the 6th play off place, so obviously do not look like getting promoted. He'll be stuck in league One again, next year, unless he is transfers to a club in a better league. Coyne is 31 this year, 32 next, time isn't on his side yet it's suggested he wants to stay another season. It's his dam contract - we'd have to buy out the remaining year on it, to get him over here. :( He'll be 33+ by the time he returns to Perth and hopefully he does not end up like how Shaun Murphy did, just playing the one season, because they came that season or two, too late. If he's worried about shortage of football, he could always get a loan move to the K-League. If Jade North, Sasa Og' and even Antun Kovacevic of all defenders, could get deals there, then Coyney certainly could. Like Culina, he would more than keep in Pim's 2010 sights doing this. I'd reckon Pim would rate such a move/scenario better than League One, given he'd be playing K-League aswell? He'd feature in those November Asian cup Qualifiers too, if he was based here, so even more time with Pim and a chance to overtake the likes of Jade North in the overall defensive pecking order, maybe even Michael Beauchamp if he impresses alongside Moorey, to become our leading 3rd option.

It's a gamble worth taking for Coyney and I reckon it's worth Sagey coughing up a small transfer fee for the player, given he has a year remaining. I also presume, though I could well be wrong (And it's none of our business per say), that he'd have a wife and/or young family too at his age. So given all these reasons, why not the move back now? Guys like Culina and Moore are showing one can move to the A-League and maintain, even enhance, their Socceroos prospects (even Joel Porter will).

And IF he does, our defence will be going from on the weak side, to ace and we
are suddenly A-League title contenders and in for 2012 ACL spots.

Definently. We would of made the finals if we didn't conceed so many goals. Our attacking record was awesome but we let in too many soft goals, escpecially at the beggining of the season and that cost us quite a few points.

I agree with you these are the only possibilities. But that said I doubt it'd be Holman (he would still consider himself worthy of a long European career) or Petkovic (because we surely wouldn't sign ANOTHER old keeper with Velaphi and Juric on the books, would we?). Coyne seems likely to hang out in England until after 2010, and Carney would probably want to stay in Europe too. So Burns it is... unless it's someone like Stefanutto who didn't make this particular squad.

Would be great to have Burns alongside Srhoj with Pellegrino and Sikora on the wings, plus Dadi and a marquee striker up front! Wouldn't even need a defence (not that I doubt the abilities of Neville, Harnwell and Velaphi to keep things somewhat respectable back there).

I reckon we'll put on a strong title challenge (hopefully), or at least make the finals.

Jacob Burns certainly looks likely and he'd be a decent signing certainly. It may mean Amaral is all but out of the picture now though, unless we may still sign him to play a bit further up the park.

Burnsy's wage too - Hmmm we have 3 more VISA spots free, with which one could well go to a Marquee. So with Burns AND perhaps another Socceroo (Sterjovski?), that's two VISA players we'd need to find on the cheap, I'd be guessing.

But yeah, Sterjovski has hinted he'd like to stay in Europe for the time being (Though recently his minutes with Derby have stil been quite inconsistent) and as you guys have said, Chris Coyne has practically said he's keen to stay on in Europe one more season.

Perth Boy and former Joey, Adrian Madaschi, who's playing Serie C atm, would be a nice pick up for our Central Defence. Though I've heard he's turned Glory down before to stay in Serie C (Though that was just a rumour).

The other Visa spot seems set to be a Craddock-like CB - if we can't land a Coyne or another decent Aussie CB, like the above. Mitchell seems set on Craddock, but he's pretty much turned him down ofcourse.

Our Marquee, who ever it is, seems set to be a second striker. Phillips is certainly out of the question now. I'm hoping one of those two remaining VISA spots will be used on another '#10/Trinidad like' player and maybe the latter on a left sided defender, Cassio-esque?

I think we'd take down two birds with one stone, if one of those two Visa players atleast, were an AFC player. We'd could easily find a half decent AM or even back up striker, from SE Asia or even a Cassio-esque Left Wing Back. I may be generalising, but South East Asians tend to have good technique, pace and stamina, So finding a bloke for out there may not be as hard as one thinks, either. There's always Africa too. But with the Asians ofcourse, if we somehow get an ACL spot this coming season, then we could employ the 3+1 rule too.

Imagine - Dadi, Sikora, Marquee + a Thai International, or something?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nattaporn_Phanrit (Thai NTs long time Left Back - Was linked to Melbourne victory apparently)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isnan_Ali (29yo. Indonesia NTs long time Left Back. Played against Australia in that Asian Cup fixture, start of this year.)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sattar_Zare (26yo. Iran NTs long time Left Back - Contract expires middle of this year, I think?)

Iran could be interesting, as even though a few of their boys earn big bucks over there, there NT has suffered from their players playing mediocre football in the UAE, Qatar etc... and they have far too few players in Europe to rise to that next level. Like the Korean 'Song,' a few talent young Iranians could see the A-League as a perfect pathway, language/culture, football style wise, to Europe.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Gaspar WA Boy Robbie Gaspar is a left footer and it would be nice to see him in Glory's squad too

Sorry a bit of a tangent, but I hope we do use one of those 5 Visa spots on an AFC player and that could work well within our squad too, if our cap becomes a bit stretched through other signings.

i dare say it but with burns in the midfield it would just about give us the best midfield in the league. now i was only ever 50/50 on phillips but if we had him up front that would of pretty much completed the team. oh well hopefully we are still in line for a classy striker, the club is talking up about spending cash so its all positives. this will be the first season ive looked fwd to in a long time.

PERTH Glory secretly signed a Socceroo in Sydney this week as the first part of owner Tony Sage's big-spending blueprint.

Sage aims to transform the battling A-League club into an Asian powerhouse.

But Glory, aiming to transform into an Asian powerhouse, is chasing an even bigger fish in Europe to become the club's marquee player for 2009-10.

Sage, who assumed full control after partner Brett McKeon walked away in February, is confident of unveiling a string of impressive signings in April.

"It's going to be a huge fillip for us," Sage said of the deal with one of Pim Verbeek's men.

Glory has previously indicated interest in luring home Mile Sterjovski, who coach David Mitchell coached in the National Soccer League, or Chris Coyne, the older brother of captain Jamie.

The mining entrepreneur is confident that Glory's tactic of leaving its squad open will pay dividends, with six spots, including three international vacancies, still to be filled.

Mitchell and deputy chairman Lui Giuliani began their audacious overseas raid yesterday.

"The list of 15 players that Mitch and Lui are seeing over there is magnificent," Sage said.

"If we get a really big star, he'll be the marquee rather than the Socceroo.

"We're the only club that's got six players left to sign. Every other club has almost finished their signings."

Sage said he felt freed up by the departures of more conservative former co-owners McKeon and John Spence.

"I'm unencumbered now by partners, where cost was a big thing," he said.

"In the past, the owners have been reluctant to spend that money.

"I'm in it to win it. I've made a lot of money in this state in my mining operations and this is my opportunity to put something back in."

WOAHHHHHH! Big news here!

Big news indeed, I'm not a Glory fan but I would be happy to see you guys in top four this coming season.

i doubt it would be anyone who got on the pitch.

According to wiki:
1. Schwazer
2. Neill
3. Moore
4. Cahill
5. Culina
6. Popovic
7. Emerton
8. Skoko
9. Viduka
10. Kewell
11. Lazaridis
12. Covic
13. Grella
14. Chipperfield
15. Aloisi
16. Beauchamp
17. Thompson
18. Kalac
19. Kennedy
20. Wilkshire
21. Sterjovski
22. Milligan
23. Bresciano

I don't think its any of those. Jacob Burns seems to fit the bill. Current socceroo, his last game was Uzbeckistan in Tashkent, not getting any game time over in Romania, SausageMahony congratulations, you have picked a winner.

Great signing. Will add a wealth of experience to the team. By the sounds of it I believe we can score another experienced marquee player, who along with Dadi, Harnwell and Burns can pass some of their knowledge onto some of our very promising youngsters.
