The best team DIDNT win tonight. Very luck Aust What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Holman Seals Roo Victory? A LATE goal from Brett Holman gave Australia an unlikely 2-1 victory over local rivals New Zealand in their farewell clash at the MCG tonight.Have your say.

Jedinak did well. Ruka needs at least one more crack. I like him.

Reason did see Culina flick the ball off the NZ defender to Vidosic? because i did and weather it was a fluke or pure skill not many players in the world can do that 8.5 i think its justified by that, i've seen a few Brazilans and Spanish players do it in Nations matches. That was class and it lead to a goal thats was Football is about! Edited by Davstar: 24/5/2010 10:37:44 PM

Seems pretty clear who isn't going to be in the 23 now. Galekovic, North, Lowry, Holland, Oar, Milligan, Garcia and Carle?

Quote:I think you are way off beam blaming Moore for the NZ goal. He was positioning himself to head the cross but Smeltz flicked it on with a deft header that Moore would not even have got near if he hadn't been stooping for the header. The player at fault was Milligan. Why was he positioning himself outside the man he was marking? Kids stuff that. It looked to me that he was picking up the closer man to the goal because Moore was so far away. I blame Moore. Clever flick-on though.

Everyone was surprised at Beauchamp's selection but I'd say he was one of the best defenders tonight, only surpassed by Neill.
Also, does anyone else think that Mile Jedinak is like Marouane Fellaini? :P

Culina doesn't rate 8.5 - it's more like a generous 7.
I'm a fan of his for the National team, but he's played better games.
And Davstar, why would you give Gaz fodder to gloat - the smarmy c*nt draws fuel from wherever he can find it.

But wait a minute. He came back home a year too early, he joined a crap club, he played terribly all last season, and then he couldn't even get game time but was only training with his old club in Europe. Surely you are not going to tell me that all the Culina knockers were... WRONG?????       I have to admite he played very well i made my judgemnts unbiased to how i felt about players

Frederici: 5.5 looked shaky couldn’t do much about the goal, Marks gloves are hard ones to Fill Jones: 6.5 Came on in the 2nd half made a goal saving stop from a NZ header Milligan: 6 Looked out of position but had a nice long range chance just wide of the goal Moore: 4 Responsibility is all his after allowing the ball to go over his head for the NZ goal Neill: 6.5 Solid at the back will be disappoint Australia conceded Carney: 6 Made some good runs lost the ball a lil to easy. Grella: 5 shocking tackle average delivery from the DM position, a highly ambitious shot on goal. Vidosic: 7.5 made good runs, a very well taken finish, earned himself a spot on the plane and imo is better and more skillful then Carle Cahill: 5.5 probably should have been red carded, had a good attempt on goal. You could tell he was holding back however and we know he can play much better than he did. Bresciano: 6 average deliveries weren’t highly effective didn’t do much wrong didn’t do much right. McDonald: 6 Had only one real chance which he did well with unlikely with the follow up might have just missed the plane was really needed to score. Holman: 8 usually I bag him out but tonight besides one poor pass he was pretty much spot on. When the writers for the Herald Sun had the title ready to print SOCCEROOS FLOP AGAINST NZ, Holman had good run and had a clam finish the reward the faith has put in him. Ora: 5.5 was on the field for 15 min made one good run and got a yellow card Bech: 6.5 the new Melbourne heart man made Australia look far more solid in the back with him there over Moore
That's my 2 cent what do you guys think? I think you are way off beam blaming Moore for the NZ goal. He was positioning himself to head the cross but Smeltz flicked it on with a deft header that Moore would not even have got near if he hadn't been stooping for the header. The player at fault was Milligan. Why was he positioning himself outside the man he was marking? Kids stuff that. It is impossible to tell from that game whether Jones or Federici is the better one for No 2 keeper. Anyone can look OK when the defence is solid like it was in the second half.

All I can say that I won't regret is that there are negatives and positives to be taken out of this game for Australia.

This. did i miss something kevin???????? No, you hit the nail on the head (for once, probably by accident). Pim sees a multitude of possibilities, picks the best one, and sticks with it until it comes good. Like a roulette player always betting on the same number. So far, his luck is holding. A better coach would see a multitude of possibilities, pick the best one, and then change it to something else if the situation required. Like a roulette player who spreads his bets a bit. Neither approach is assured of success. Let's hope Pim gets lucky in SA, because he sure as hell is not gonna change anything. I think our starting 11 will be etched in stone and the other 12 players will be lucky to get any game time at all. Welcome to Pimland.

absolutely disgusting performance from Australia
why oh why do we allow the opposition to play out from the back? part of the Dutch philosophy is to press high up, pressurize, and take care of the ball when we have it! in the first half, we just sat off the Kiwi's and allowed them to touch the ball and get comfortable, and consequently gain confidence from it. having said that, terrible defending from Moore and Milligan for the opening goal.
2nd half was better, we played positive football for about 15 minutes

I can't wait for us to play the danes and the US. at least by then we can actually put down a team without experimenting and actually see what were really up against.
Hopefully new zealand learn from this and pick up their game, australia can play a lot better than this and if they can only come away from a game like this, then they need to be a lot more prepared when they face off against italy, paraguay and slovakia to have any chance of getting to the second round, let alone worry about how australia is going to go against germany.
Australia at full strength and as underdogs will be tough, no doubt!
I can see new zealand improving a lot more than their confed efforts last year.

1. After Grella and Cahill's "tackles" its no wonder we couldn't get any bigger name team to play us. Who would risk crippling their players in a friendly?
2. Culina should be at right back, with the freedom to run up and down the right flank all day. Wilkshire in to the middle.
3. Moore- have a nice beer or two watching the Cup in front of the tele like the rest of us. Well past it.
4. Bresciano-too slow.
5. Carle aint goin'.
6. Holman-LEGEND.
Overall: If there isn't a massive turnaround in 3 weeks, it will be an embarrassing WC.

Lots of opinions flying around about our Aus team, may as well throw mine in!
Stood out as terrible: - Grella (not just the tackle, but poor play - just like recent performances at club level) - Culina (in the first half) - Oar (clearly still behind him at this stage) - Verbeek (learn to use McDonald properly you twat)
Obviously a bit rusty: - Cahill (that sort of tackle in EPL seems to be treated similarly and probably got what it deserved IMO - a yellow) - Moore (I generally don't like him. He clearly needs to sharpen up a bit, but his experience did show). - Carney - Holman (despite the goal, he certainly handed the ball to NZ a couple of times) - Bresciano
Stand outs: - Neill (so damn reliable, just what a captain needs to be) - Vidosic (always liked him) - Culina (in the second half) - Beauchamp (good to see some more reliability back there)
I'm pretty embarrassed by Grella's tackle, that was a real shocker. Cahill's was just reckless, but Grella's was something else.

It's funny how much people forget how shit Brett Holman is after one goal. He proved again tonight that apart from the goal he has the touch of a rapist and should not be near a Socceroos starting eleven.
