Also wasn't impressed with Tommy Oar's challenge on Nelsen. No attempt at the ball. That toe-rag doesn't deserve to be on the same pitch as Nelsen let alone be doing that. Aside from being a low tactic, it's cheap, worthy of a booking, and disrespectful in a way.

Someone needs to take him aside and tell him to smarten up, for sure. He'll probably be given another chance, and he deserves that much when he's been such a fantastic player for australia over the years.

I think the future is bright for our boys, the new generation will be good if they are given time. 2014/1018 Quarted Finals will be the target. With so many players going to the Dutch League and Turkey etc plus our league getting better we can be happy and excited for the new generation.

Quote:You are sending a poor message to younger players in the squad and maybe now a liability to the squad. We have enough liabilities arleady with Verbeek, Moore, etc involved in the squad. The message being sent to youngsters are the least of our worries.

'probably not needed in a friendly' Grella you are a spanner! That tackle was not required in any game!!!! Red mist is a disease of the ageing pro who lacks speed, discipline and intelligence. You are sending a poor message to younger players in the squad and maybe now a liability to the squad. We will struggle with 11 players let alone 10.......

Aussies, you were lucky he wasn't sent off, for if he was you would have surely lost that game playing with a man down, even more so if Timmy Cahill had also recieved the correct punishment his chellenge warranted.

Many of the A team roo's were off there game last nite due to Pims hard training sessions they were all knackered hence the poor play and mistimed rash tackles, Not that that justifies butchering the sheep shaggers who played nobley and well and deserved more than they got out of the game. Don't underestimate our ANZAC brothers whom I think can certainly give the Slovaks and the Paras a hard time at the WC. I would perform the haka on the bastards before the game and watch them shit themselves!!

It's ok, he's only a kiwi...it's not like he's an actual human being.
Aside from looking for an argument, it was only a friendly and it was an aggressive tackle...he knows it, but it's against New Zealand...it would have been more inexcusable if he had failed to make the tackle tbh.

Grella has a weak mentality and could damage our chances at the WC if he loses his cool and gets sent off. He should have been sent off against Brazil in 2006 after his belligerent tackle on Ronaldo. He is also a complete hypocrite. Following Rory Fallon's comments that he 'wouldn't be surprised if there were injuries in the game' Grella came out and said:
"I am disappointed. It's a man's game and it should be played in a man's way. But I would never wish it upon any of the New Zealand players to get injured. That would be something shocking. For him even to be thinking about things like that is very unprofessional. Maybe he is trying to ruffle the wrong feathers."
How can he make a statement like that and then launch into a dangerous and stupid tackle against an NZ player in a friendly match before a WC.

I wouldn't be totally upset if the Grella I saw play last night missed the final squad of 23...very ordinary. Of course at Grella his best is a different matter.

Then he mouths off at NZ and does exactly what he said was unproffessional. I think we really had a good look at Grella's real character last night. Time for Jedinak or Valeri to step up. Agree. Grella was so far off the pace last night, made poor decisions, and was frustrated by being outplayed by NZ. I would feel more comfortable with a DM pairing of Wilkshire and Jedinak - a good balance of technique and physicality. Jedinak was good last night, and would more than hold his own against the Germans. As for Wilkshire, he's wasted on the right. Put him where the action will be. I hope Pim picks a side on form, rather than reputation - though by selecting Craig Moore, he seems to have favoured the latter. I seem to recall that the last time Jedinak and WIlkshire played in the centre of the park, the socceroos totally outplayed Ireland.

At least Timmy went for the ball. Grella was going to take Bertos out, wasnt even interested in the ball. If we play like that against an "A-League" NZ (and a A-League coach) ,imagine us at the WC ???Dare I say it will be a disaster of Biblical Proportions:oops:

One thing is for sure, Pim Verbeek's got some serious head kicking to do over the next two weeks. I hope he hasn't gone soft due to his love for this team with apparently "no egos". What they need is some Guus Hiddink style tough-love. Grella and Moore are on notice, Neill needs to start captaining the side on the pitch (not just off it) and if Tim Cahill wants to carry on like that he can sit his arse back on the bench.

Love Vinnie. Last of the Socceroos hard men. People seem to forget that had Vinnie not smashed Bertos like a bag of Crisps there would have been nothing memorable in that first half at all.
Vinnie is a necessary evil and I love his commitment to a challenge. Craig however can go back to the strikers.

Yeah on last night's disgraceful performance I would rather play Valeri or Jedinak, they both looked in good touch and have been playing regularly unlike Grella who has been bench warming for Blackburn.

All Whites vice-captain Tim Brown's World Cup dream is in serious doubt.
Brown is on a plane to Auckland after scans this morning revealed he has a fractured shoulder.
The midfielder went to hospital last night after falling heavily on his shoulder during the first half of the All Whites' 2-1 loss to the Socceroos.
A New Zealand Football (NZF) spokesman today confirmed CT and MRI scans in Melbourne had revealed the fracture.
The full extent on the injury is not yet known but Brown will miss the European leg of the All Whites' World Cup build-up and though he is hopeful of joining the team in South Africa, he could well miss the World Cup.
NZF are awaiting further results before deciding whether Brown will be replaced for the trip to Europe.
Herbert said Brown would be given every opportunity to rejoin the squad in South Africa but conceded if surgery was necessary the rehabilitation time frame could sabotage those plans.
Wellington midfielder Cole Peverley, one of seven players on standby to cover injuries to the 23-man squad, is the likely replacement should Brown be ruled out.
Meanwhile, midfielder Leo Bertos has been cleared to travel to Europe after concerns over his right leg - crunched in crude challenges by Vince Grella and Tim Cahill - eased.
Bertos sustained a gash on his lower leg but escaped serious injury.

I can't wait for Pim to announce the squad, last night Moore showed he can't play anymore, his defending was very poor, and his timing... shocking!!!!!!,C'mon Craig be honest to yourself and quit before it's to late.

Sadly out of touch, out of form. An instant red card in any other meaningful game. Could be a liability at the Cup.

"Tim Brown fractured his shoulder and is in serious doubt for the World Cup. Thanks for the game Soccerootas."
To be fair Brown was injured in a completely innocent situation where he just fell awkwardly. No malice etc.

Brownie wrote:Grella was so off the pace and couldn't pass water last night, but for him to take it out on another player especially in a friendly is a low act! I don't want players representing Australia with dirty things like that. I hope he gets his form back and his mind straight otherwise he shouldn't be playing with his current form and touch.
And as for Moore, he should never start, he's lost it! Beauchamp gives us so much more stability. Agree with everthing Brownie has said.

From his comments he said...to me he shows what a stupid dumb fuck he is..really he is a complete dickhead, like how could he say that the tackles were a little to hard like common they were very hard FFS!!! also hes ranting to the ref to me shows a player whos got no respect for the game at all. Also if he possibly changes his mind in playing in the a-league, to me i wouldnt pay my money to watch him at all, cos hes like a Muscat/Tiatto they are all hacks, they just represent bad role models for our game in this country! Really poor form Vinnie!!!

Grella's mental state is a concern. He seemed to be in a rotten mood last night. And what the hell was that shot from halfway about?
Having said that, there's no way I don't want him in the starting 11 every game. Pim's given him a public raking, he's acknowledged it. Now get your head down and work hard in SA, Vinny. We need ya!
