Some good news out of the England camp. Cashley is out of the squad wmost likely means that Gibbs will get his first England start.

Yeah true, but the way I see it not much difference between him getting injured playing for England or getting injured playing for us. Van Persie is the same.

Sagna - Away form is missing ingredient

By Richard Clarke

Bacary Sagna believes Arsenal's new-found away strength could be the missing ingredient in their title bid.

The full back scored the first goal in his side's hard-fought 2-1 win at Everton on Sunday. It was their second victory on the road inside four days and, coupled with Chelsea's defeat against Sunderland, helped Arsène Wenger's side go within two points of the Premier League leaders.

Arsenal have now taken 14 points away and 12 at home in six matches at either venue. In fact the only Premier League defeat on their travels came at Chelsea on October 3 and even then Wenger's men performed well. Sagna knows a travel sick side cannot win the title.

"We know if we want to be successful and competitive, we want to take maximum points away," he said.

"That's what we have missed over the past few years but we know we can win games now, even against big opponents. So we just need to play game after game and give the maximum."

Sagna's strike was a collector's item. It doubled his Arsenal tally in his 147th game for the Club.

"I feel great about it because I haven't scored for a long time and overall it helped the team to win the game," he said.

"Apart from this goal, I think we played well and deserved to win. It was a very difficult game. It is not easy here but if we want to win something, we have to win these kind of games.

"The title race is very tight - we are very close to the top of the league and not far from the opponents. But we need to think about our team and not about the others, play our game and we will see the points total at the end."

I've been surprised by just how good our away form is. Was shocked to read before the Everton game that we have the best away record in the league. Something we have been lacking in recent years. We're traditionally strong at home so this really helps, and have to say it is very encouraging signs for our title bid.

Lukasz Fabianski has a saves to shots ratio off 83%. Only Petr Cech has a better ratio of 85%. Don't wanna jinx it but maybe he has turned a corner for good.

[-x [-x [-x The way RVP is with injuries im glad we have a decent amount of quality backups plus hes one of my fav players,

The thing is he is probably at the bottom of the pecking order when it comes to upfront. We don't need him. You say it's good we have quality backups well Carlos Vela isn't one of them.

Edited by sydneycroatia58: 15/11/2010 02:33:42 PM

Who do we have that is better? RVP, Chemkah, Bendtnar, Walcot(who is rarely used up front anyway) and from the res's we have Gillis Sanu and Rhys Murphy, so that would leave Vella as pushing 3rd choice with Bendtar, With RVP injures that would put him one front ahead in the line, so when RVP and Chemkah and Walcot are all in the starting 11 Bendtnar and Vella are the only reseves we have,

Jay Emmanuel Thomas is ahead of Vela in the pecking order at the moment. Is scoring for fun in the reserves and deserves a chance to show what he can do.m He's scored 10 goals in 6 games in the reserves with 5 assists. He's more deserving of a place than Vela.

We've seen what Carlos Vela can do, which isn't much. The only games he's played well in are either League Cup games or games where we are already up by 3 or 4. As shown this year with his goal against Bolton when the game was already won and his 2 against Braga when the game was already wrapped up.

Whenever Vela is given a chance to start he does absolutely nothing.

The match against Chelsea is a perfect example of how Wenger rates JET above Vela. When we were 1-0 down and needed a goal, he didn't bring on Vela did he. He brought on Jay Emmanuel Thomas because there is more chance of Jay Emmanuel Thomas getting a goal than Vela. He only brought on Vela after we went down 2-0 as a straight awap for Arshavin.

Vela is one of these players that has got a contract extension based on potential which he is yet to fufill and I don't think he ever will in England. Really should be sold while we can still get some money for him.

Vela is too one-dimensional to ever be a world-class footballer. He relies way too much on getting the ball on his left foot whenever he recieves it. RVP was the same when he came to Arsenal, but he evolved his game to become a more complete player.

Vela doesn't seem to have improved and should either be loaned to a Bolton/Blackpool for the season where he will get regular game time in the EPL or be sold.

Ome news from the England squad. Gibbs is set to start but unfortunately Wilshere has pulled out after injuring himself in training.

In other news Bobby Pires has signed for Aston Villa on a free transfer. Great to see him back in the Premier League and hopefully see him when we play Villa in a few weeks.

Also some rumours around about us buying Ashley Young in January.

Weird rumours considering we have absolutely no need for him. Quality player no doubt but not the player we need.

The thing with JET is he's able to play anywhere from the centre of defence to upfront. His best position though is upfront and that's where he will excel. He plays on the wing for the reserves. Upfront is where Wenger see's him playing.

'Being a relative unknown helped me adapt'

By Chris Harris

Sebastien Squillaci believes his relative anonymity has made it easier for him to settle in English football.

The French defender was an established international and a consistent performer with Sevilla in La Liga before he arrived at Arsenal in late August but he remained an unknown quantity to many Arsenal fans.

Nearly three months on, Squillaci has already captained the Gunners and only three players - Alex Song, Gael Clichy and Marouane Chamakh - have started more games for the Club this season.

The 30-year-old put in another solid shift in Arsenal's 2-1 win at Everton on Sunday and he believes that his low-key introduction to the Premier League - and the large French contingent at Emirates Stadium - have helped him acclimatise.

"Yes, I think it helped [that I was a relative unknown]," Squillaci told Arsenal TV Online in an exclusive ‘Spotlight' interview.

"I knew a lot of the players and there are a lot of Frenchmen here, which always makes it easier to adapt. There are players here who I have played with for France and also against in the French league and that makes coming here not so hard.

"It's always better coming to a club where you know the players, it helps you if there are any problems and also helps on and off the pitch too.

"Adapting-wise, I knew that it [English football] would be physical with some good sides, playing good football. The strikers are big and strong and it is a great contrast with Spain where the strikers are faster and not so strong. But it's not going too badly. I'm stepping up to the challenge and it's getting easier."

The common consensus last summer was that Thomas Vermaelen would emerge as Arsenal's senior defender but the Belgian's ongoing Achilles trouble has allowed Squillaci, fellow new boy Laurent Koscielny and Johan Djourou to stake their claims.

Squillaci has helped steady the ship in defence but he wants to see Vermaelen return as soon as possible.

"Thomas Vermaelen got injured and still is injured and that's a shame for us because we need players like him and that brings confidence to the team," he said. "But there is competition at any big club and you also need all your players as there are injuries, lots of games every three days and so you need a good group of players to make up for this and to be able to cope.

"I hope that everyone gets fit, Thomas and everyone else so that we all get our chance and we'll be able to catch up in the league."
http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/-being-a-relative-unknown-helped-me-adapt-

Been pretty happy with how he's performed so far. Maybe just a little slow on the turn sometimes, but apart from that I can't complain. Will be interesting when Vermaelen comes back who partners him, because at the moment I can't split the 3 of them. Djourou probably just shades it at the moment.

Arsenal forward Nicklas Bendtner accepts manager Arsène Wenger's warning to be patient after the player complained at the lack of first-team football following his return from injury.

Bendtner, who has yet to start a full game for the Gunners in the Premier League this season, has raised question marks about his future at the Emirates after complaining about his limited time on the pitch this term.

Gunners boss Wenger had earlier denied that the 22-year-old could depart from the club and Bendtner is now focusing on reclaiming his place in the Gunners' first-team.

"I know my place," Bendtner told BT.

"I haven't been shouted at by manager, Arsene Wenger, but he has told me the same that he has told the media - that I need to be patient when I have been out for so long.

"This is something I totally can understand and I have been clear about this all the time, but I feel fit and want to play from the start.

"I need to do that in order to continue to evolve - that's just the way it is."

Yeah there were rumours of that, something about his agent saying they've been in contact with Arsenal and that we are very interested in signing him.

Even if we got Lukaku still would rather sell Vela than Bendtner. I'm still trying to figure out what Carlos Vela offers to us.
