The only strikers of the last 20 years to keep there level of scoring up are Bergkamp, van Nistelrooy and Ronaldo.

Lol. Four more?

Let me counter with...

Kuyt (funnily enough!)
Cruyff (Jordi and Johan)
Frank de Boer
Van der Vaart
Robben
Gullit
Ibrahimovic
Peinaar
Honda
Van Persie
Nigel De Jong
Jimmy Floyd Haisselbank
Sneijder
Van Bommel
Kluivert
Ari
Alex

I could go on, but that might require more effort than you deserve, given your inclusion of Kuyt. Let's just say that you are a blurt.

Absolutely devastated about the whole Torres buisness. I truly thought he had more respect for the club and the fans. Sure he looked disinterested earlier in the season but I thought the arrival of Kenny revitalized him. To turn his back on the club by the simple temptation of more money is absolutely mind-boggling. He's already on brilliant money, why wouldn't he want to stay where he's adored and at a club with real history, who are at the moment attempting to rebuild?

This news, combined with the Asian cup loss have been very very hard to take. A truly terrible day (in terms of football)

The club can refuse his transfer request but he'll still be gone at the end of the season.A real shame aswell. Torres and Suarez up front would've been a deadly strike partnership.

He does address some good issues, and the funds will go a long way to aiding the recovery effort but i still believe, no matter how much money we get, the club will be hard-pressed to find a striker the same pedigree as Torres. But I suppose there's nothing the club can do but sell if the player wants to leave

If, or indeed when Torres leaves, we should look to bring in another big-money striker, a midfielder and a full-back. The acquisition of Suarez is definitely a bonus, but if Fernando leaves then we're back to having just 2 recognized strikers: Suarez and N'Gog (seeing as pachecho hasn't had much of an impact, we've loaned Eccleston and Kuyt's deployed as a winger these days). I still believe that N'Gog is not the solution and he's not the standard we should be aiming for. Perhaps we can bring in Miroslav klose? too old? Too injury prone? perhaps, but he's still deadly. As i've said earlier Stefan keeisling would be another one of my choices, young, technically very good and with a bright future ahead of him. He would be the perfect player for us as we look to the future. this is all just opinion and I know that these won't happen, but I'm just trying to brainstorm the kind of striker we should look at when replacing Torres. Any other suggestions?

More than half that list aren't strikers. FFS how thick are you. The Dutch league has of the last 10 years had a lot of STRIKERS who score buckets of goals in Holland then flop outside of Holland. That was my argument. You are an idiot.

In another attempt to try and get this thread back on topic and avoid more trolling:

Jim Boardman - Suarez had his medical yesterday and last night the deal was all done bar "formalities". Should be able to celebrate that deal soon.

anfieldonline: Suarez set to sign 6 year deal. Met his new teammates at Melwood this morning.

True, just an insurance policy so if he does flop they can ask for a bigger transfer fee I guess.

TBF on Huntelaar, nearly half those games have been off the bench, particularly at Real and AC Milan, where he struggled because of it. I'd wager that his actual goals per minutes played would stack up decently compared to other strikers in recent times.

EDIT: But that's another matter, for another thread, keep the discussion on Liverpool in this here Liverpool thread.

The point still remains that paying big money for a striker out of the Dutch leagues is very risky business.

IIRC he was a starting XI player when he joined Milan and went something like 10 games without a goal and got benched.

Discussion about Huntelaar relates directly to Liverpool though at the moment now they have signed Suarez.
