The point still remains that paying big money for a striker out of the Dutch leagues is very risky business.

IIRC he was a starting XI player when he joined Milan and went something like 10 games without a goal and got benched.

Discussion about Huntelaar relates directly to Liverpool though at the moment now they have signed Suarez.

Paying big money for any player to move to a new country is risky business.

And no, Huntelaar has nothing to do with Liverpool because they have signed Suarez. That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

Huntelaar = Leading scorer in Holland before moving abroad.

Suarez = Leading scorer in Holland about to move abroad.

How is it not appropriate to compare players of the same position, who have the same style of play and same scoring records?

If it is not appropriate then sure Huntelaar has nothing to do with Liverpool but seeming it is appropriate to make these comparisons Huntelaar and how he has faired since leaving Holland is more than acceptable to bring up.

Because you're not comparing their records, you're trying to justify that why you think Huntelaar has a poor record outside of Holland. That has nothing to do with Liverpool.

No i'm not. I am justifying why I think that 26 million pounds for Suarez is a ridiculous fee.

By proving Huntelaar has a poor record? No. You're going about it the wrong way, so stop doing it.

When Huntelaar and for that matter the majority of strikers out of Holland have flopped outside of Holland. When Huntelaar and Suarez are the exact same type of player? Seems like a perfectly justifiable argument to me.

No, you're missing the point.

1. Liverpool sign Suarez (About Liverpool)
2. Suarez will flop (Still About Liverpool)
3. No he won't, you can't prove that (Still About Liverpool)
4. Yes he will because heaps of strikers from Holland have flopped (Still About Liverpool (just))
5. No they haven't, Here are some names that haven't (Still just about Liverpool)
6. Here are there records outside of Holland, they flopped (Not about Liverpool)

You're up to point 6. The fact that you're wrong in the matter just adds more icing on the cake.

So basically what you are saying is you can not back up this argument with stats unless Liverpool singed a striker from Holland years ago who's scoring record has dropped since then.

That is stupid. A direct comparison about a now Liverpool player with players who have played in the same league and style as him is a perfectly acceptable argument. I point blank refuse to accept that it is wrong to compare players who have the same pedigree if they haven't played for the same clubs once leaving Holland. It is a perfectly valid argument to make and back up the point I am trying to make.

](*,) ](*,)

Comparing the players is fine, going into an in depth discussion of their stats, is not. This thread is for Liverpool discussions, If you want to prove your point about strikers from Holland flopping after they move, start a new thread for it.

I'm not derailing this thread any further for this stupid argument, it ends here. Keep this thread for Liverpool Discussion, end of.

His armband proved he was a red Torres Torres
But Roman came and turned his head Torres Torres
Signed for the club that gives out flags
and the dirty captain shags your WAGS
Fernando Torres keep an eye on your bird

And now he's proved he’s not a Red
Torres, Torres
'I'm off to Stamford Bridge', he said,
Torres, Torres
He kissed the badge upon his chest,
Turned in his transfer request,
Fernando Torres told us a bunch of lies

Some funny mock ups I've seen

Read a fantastic point on RedAndWhiteKop - The owners were after Suarez, Young and Adam; Comolli came out and said so. Presumably this means we had at least 40m to spend. So we get 50m for Torres, what is the chances we're going to spend 90m? None.

I'm hoping this is a bit of Rooney playbook stuff.

I thought if you've played in Champions League you are not allowed to play for another club in the Champions League, but you could play in the Europa League.

Since Ajax finished third in the Champions League group stage they are now in the Europa League, but they haven't played a game yet

I would presume he can play for us. :-k

I'm pretty sure once you play in European competition be it Europa League or Champions League you can't play for another team in either competition in that same season.

Yeah you are right.

Same thing happened to Maxi last season. We signed him from Atletico Madrid in January, and Atletico were in the Champions League which meant Maxi was in-eligible for us in the Europa League.

If Torres leaves we will have to rely on... N'Gog.

Not if you sign another striker which is what you are apparently looking at. Of course they would have to come from a team not in European competition.

If Torres leaves, I'd be surprised if Gerrard and Reina stay in the Summer. Can the team be any worse if you got 100m for them, another 50m for other players, spend 50m of the owners own money and had 200m for a world class manager to build his own title team?

I think Chelsea did it with similar amount in a short time. Maybe Mourinho can do it with us again.
