I know im hardly in the position but how the f*ck do you listen to that shit. Its so corny IMO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Py5CXrzWCU&feature=related Im listening to this. I hate that yelling into a mic at close range with a torn up throat sort of voice. Its super cheesey IMO. I like metal where you can actually sing along too or follow like metallica.

Dude, your list doesn't include Eminem and Kurupt, who are usually in the industry's top 10 all the time. Don't diss Em just on last his album. Lyrically in his first 2 he pwned it.
And Kurupt = DPG imo. Love his shit.

Quote:I know im hardly in the position but how the f*ck do you listen to that shit. Its so corny IMO. It wasn't meant to be a demonstration of tallent. I don't remember the songs by them I like that are good. Funky can probably recommend a couple of them for you though. The point was about the song lyrics and titles [stuff like 'I Didn't Know "I Love You" Came With A Knife In The Back' and 'It Ain't Gonna Suck Itself'] Quote:I like metal where you can actually sing along too or follow like metallica. Metallica are pretty shit in some of their stuff. That's why OPETH are fucking awesome. You'd probably like Staind too. Words can not express the contempt I feel for eminem...but he doesn't even warrant a capital 'e' for his name, Quote:Alter Bridge - Open Your Eyes  Alter Bridge: Creed without the wank. Revolver - Rage Against The Machine. Paper Jesus - Staind. Don't Believe - Seether.

For all the Electronic kids out there, MGMT... good stuff.
The Piano Has Been Drinking - Tom Waits
Heavy stuff of Soulfly and Pantera O and lots of Isis - really really good stuff. I recommend them.

Isis are good. If you like them, listen to Cult Of Luna (If you don't already). Very similar style, but IMO, a hell of a lot better. Just amazing songwriting and lyrical content. Machine Head - A Farewell To Arms and at the completely other end of the scale Donkey Rollers - Silver Bullet

Whats wrong with Pantera? They and Slayer would be my favourite thrash bands of all time, closely followed by Testament and Machine Head.

Their fans for one. I'm yet to meet a Pantera fan who isn't a wanker who treats women like shit. Then there's that they're not that good and that Dimebag's guitar was recorded using noise gates so it's actually far less impressive than is sounds. Slayer are heaps good though.

Fans shouldn't really influence whether a bands good or not. Having said that, the two people i saw yesterday wearing a Pantera shirt are some of the nicest people i know... I can understand why you might think that though, but isn't that just a generalisation of most metalheads?

MMMmmmmm...nah, I know heaps of mad as really nice 'metalheads'. Just the tendancy is for Pantera fans to be arseholes, moreso than other fans. And their music isn't that good anyway (especially when you know how they record it).

Yeah, i don't like the idea you have to hard as to listen to metal. Sure, you have to have a bit of aggro in a mosh pit, but theres no need to be a dickhead put simply, just to listen to Slayer or whatever.
On Pantera, it is dissappointing to think that Cemetary Gates isn't as magical as i once thought, if your friend doesn't know bout the recordings, i wouldn't tell him, ignorance is bliss in this case.

FMLYHM is an awesome song for one, there's heaps of good tracks. I was a little sceptical about Fake It, but it's growing on me a little. I think i heard Fake It around its actual release time, so i wasn't expecting it, it kinda fits in with a lot of Karma and Effects songs too. My favourite is probably FMLYHM, along with the album opener Like Suicide, its great. Quote:You're referring to the logic gates and that shit on the guitar?? Yeah, not that i got too depressed about the news, just if Pantera is your life and all...

My favourite is probably FMLYHM, along with the album opener Like Suicide, its great. Yeah, it's a lot like the hidden track on there beat wise and it's a little too boot scooty for my liking. I liked FMLYHM, that's my fave (reminds me of a couple of the ex-s:P)...but Like Suicide, Breakdown, No Jesus Christ and Don't Believe are good too. Their crunchier heavy stuff is really good, wish they'd to more like that. Hopefully they ignore the bad press about the album being too '90s grunge' and put out another couple of albums because I reckon this one was great. Quote:Yeah, not that i got too depressed about the news, just if Pantera is your life and all... Can't say I was really bothered by it, but it destroyed what little respect I had for them.

Might see the Gyroscope/Shihad tour, as its alright value. Hoping Big Day Out manages a decent line-up for once though (more than a good band a year anyway). I'll be in Germany at the end of the year too, so i'm hoping to catch some quality acts throughout Europe, its a pity Wacken won't be on then. :p

Anyone who can't be stuffed waiting for JJJ's annoncement of homebake - http://www.homebake.com.au/2008/bands.htmlCrowded House, The Vines, Karnivool and You Am I are good enough for me. British India, Cut Copy, Bliss En Esso and Pegz would be icing on the cake. Its a VERY nice announcement imo. Only $87. Definitely worth considering. Edit: Oops on the double post... Didn't realise :p Edited by Nico: 23/7/2008 10:25:38 PM
