MANY young stars impressed in the weekend’s Football Federation Victoria Victorian Champions League play-offs in Bendigo.
Teams from across Victoria contested semi and grand finals at Epsom-Huntly Recreation Reserve in a dramatic end to the summer competition.

Hundreds of players, coaches, parents and referees from across Victoria descended on Bendigo for the final weekend of competition, which ended on Sunday.

Flash flooding forced the finals to be delayed a week.

Bendigo’s zone team, the Loddon Mallee Lightning, had six teams reach the VCL finals, with the under-17 girls and the under-15 boys scoring the best result, finishing fifth in their respective divisions.

The Lightning’s under-13 boys team also competed, finishing sixth overall, while both the under-13 and under-15 girls also finished sixth.

The Loddon Mallee under-14 boys team finished in ninth position.

In the under-13 boys division, Southern Blue Tongues took out the championship over Western Wolves on penalties, while in the under-13 girls’ division North East Diamonds took out the title from South East Cougars 2-0.

The Western Wolves defeated North East Diamonds in the boys under-14 match and the South East Cougars were too strong for North East Diamonds in the under-15 boys match, winning 4-0.

The girls from South Blue Tongues beat South East Cougars, 1-0 in the under-15 division, while Wimmera South Coast Eagles defeated Southern Blue Tongues in the under-17 girls grand final.
