A night for Kristen

posted by on March 2, 2011

Kristen Stephanie Hantzis was born a beautiful healthy bouncing baby girl on 16 September 1996.

Kristen was always happy. She always had a cheeky smile on her face and always made everyone happy. Her sense of humor and happy disposition was infectious to all. As she got older other kids were drawn to her kind and gentle nature and she was everyone’s favorite.

In other words she has always been a strong, healthy and active girl. Not the type of girl you’d expect to be diagnosed with cancer at the age of 13….

Fast forward to mid June 2010 and she developed a nasty cough. We took her to the doctor and they diagnosed the usual... (It’s a virus, give her this antibiotic and she should be fine).

One week of this and no progress on the cough and now her glands were swollen. Another visit to the doctor, an ultrasound and different antibiotics were prescribed. The ultrasound revealed swollen thyroid and neck glands, we were told all would be well when the anti-biotics kicked in.

The swelling just got worse. We took her to Westmead Children’s hospital and knew it was something serious when we were rushed straight in. We were later informed that it was Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma i.e., Cancer.

Now there’s a way to have your whole world crumble before you. Just like that! From one moment to another. Nothing will ever be the same again.

1st July 2010... The journey begins.

You found it interesting? Answer honestly.

did you even bother reading the article?

I wish for a speedy recovery.

Nope. I saw the words "Olympic" and "Fundraiser" and thought "not gonna waste my time".
