THE King’s School at North Parramatta held the Australian juniors football sevens tournament on Sunday, with participants flocking from all over Sydney for the annual competition.

President of the King’s School Football Club Stuart Smith said more than 450 junior soccer players turned up for the event.

“Across the six divisions 46 teams competed, with teams coming from as far as the Blue Mountains and the northern beaches,” he said.

“A visit from the Sydney FC squad led by captain Terry McFlynn was a highlight for many players, and photographs and signing of supporters gear was given to some lucky players.”

The round-robin competition was played under modified FIFA rules, with seven players a side, playing seven-minute halves, in each of the six age divisions, starting at under-12 up to under-16.

Mr Smith said the fact that former Socceroos captain and now a coach at the school Paul Wade was on hand all day typified the level of interest in the sport at King’s. He thanked the team of volunteers, who helped make the day a success.
