Corey Gameiro came on in the 63rd min for FC Eindhoven in their 2-0 loss to De Graafschap

Robbie Kruse played a full 90 in his sides 2-2 with Schalke.

I'm sure Piscopo is getting a decent apprenticeship at Renate but it is Serie C. I think we'll need to be patient like with Ikon and should see him hit it in about 3 years rather than 1.

Piscopo is far better off staying in the Italian system than coming back to Australia. First of all Serie C is the same level as the A-league, but with far more intensity and training. He could make the jump up to Serie B in one season and possibly find himself in the Serie A before he's 25.

If he comes back to Australia, he'd receive half-assed training and the longest off-season in the world.

True on the training part. Italy hoards players in big squads with those massive benches. A lot of good players still don't play. It can be very hard to get ahead. If he is to progress he needs to secure a move where he will get minutes.

The A-League didn't do too bad for Mooy & Ikon.

Shhh, and Rogic Leckie arzani etc.
By inala brah - 31 Mar 2019 12:45 PM

did anyone watch hudders vs crystal palace?  lineups all put mooy on the right wing. heatmap on whoscored puts him mostly there as well.

what the actual fuck?  this new guy has no idea.

also how can you play pritchard in the 10 and not mooy?  he's by far the best 10 they have.

@Sub007,
Is - "Is a a serial pest or something?", ment to read 'Is he a serial pest or something?'
If yes - Is that directed at Brown??
If yes again - Yeah, I guess he can be read that way. He is a firery competitor who plays hard, and someone who a̶l̶w̶a̶y̶s̶ a lot of the time, finds a way to get under his opponents skin. It's nothing new. Happens to him all the time.

EDIT:
If it wasn't directed at Brown, just disregard my post ☺

Adam Taggart is in the K-League team of the week and is chosen as the MVP.

By johnszasz - 4 Apr 2019 6:12 AM

Bozanic, Milligan, McGowan starting. Rogic bench. No Curran or Gersbach.
By johnszasz - 4 Apr 2019 7:16 AM

3:0 Chelsea. Appears Ryan can do little against these good shots.
By sub007 - 4 Apr 2019 1:20 PM

Screenshot doesn't show for some reason.

Anyway Oliver Puflett (Ex WSW youth striker) signed for Home United in Singapore (Same cub Cernak plays for) and scored and got an assist on debut.

Other Aussies who play in Singapore are Blake Riccuito who plays for Brunei DPMM, and Corey Warren who plays for Geylang.

Taggart played a full 90 in a 0-0 draw with sangju

Genreau, Sainsbury and Behich all on the bench in the same game. Frustrating as it's a quick turnaround from the Ajax game and the PSV defence was poor against 10 men.

Pretty much rely on the mexican and De Jong for every W.  (goals). Eredivisie is pretty dire really apart from these 1 or 2 good players.

Defense could play rubbish every game regardless. Champions League they had nfi what they were doing.

I can see why MVB was utterly confused about who he should play. He tried Sains in a few games in the domestic and then 1 loss undid any efforts they made.

Behich as well. MVB being a new coach just isn't going to take any risks with those fans. They criticised those games heavily

Yeah it's that difficult spiral. They come in later after a WC. They get some practice game minutes but the manager wants a familiar 11 for starters. Things go well and then there's no point in changing. Behich and Sains get a cameo here and there and then get starts in a cup upset suddenly being stamped as terrible. Confidence starts to drop and then Sains gets thrown into the deep end vs Inter and does quite well only to then suffer victim to an error at Spurs away. They go to the Asian Cup and perform below par confirming the doubters that they're not good. The season is still very much alive and they want the title.

Of course if they're good enough they'll play. It's not the simple though as breaking into such a stable 11 is very hard.

Great news.

Just out of curiosity Byun_Fan, are you based in Korea?

If so, do you know why it took so long for Ibini to get his first start?

Not sure. Think the new Jeonbuk manager is just being conservative. He has a lot of pressure on him since they expect him to win at least one trophy this year (league, FA Cup, or ACL)

He hasn't played the other new signings that often either.

maybe to another league less physical and without concrete pitches.. Spain or Italy.. we have already seen what scotland can do to our young talent in Arzani... but tom doesnt have the same self belief thats why he goes missing in big games..

Arzani's knee is more result of bad genetics. Would have happened regardless of where he was playing.

I know some were saying Scotland grass is soft n shit but we've only just recently seen how bad one of our pitches is.

My belief is the same shit would have happened here if he had have taken that awkward turn.

100% so lets just see how his op goes and if he comes back like Walcott or even Rhyan Grant - he doesn't seem to be slowing down.

Pretty tough for Brighton to take. They're still in a very tough spot. Southampton got pegged back by Watford at the death to keep more teams in the mix.

battle for the last relegation spot - it's very tight for maty. cardiff could get past them. wouldnt be putting money on either team to survive.

cardiff 31 points - have: fulham, crystal palace, man u.  they could take 3 points from that. fulham are in the best form of the bottom 5 but are relegated. crystal have nothing much to play for but are dangerous this year. man u will be desperate.
brighton 34 points -  have:  newcastle, arsenal, man city.  newcastle is the best chance for points. arsenal and city are desperate.  will be lucky to get a point. especially with their form
southampton 37 points - have: bournemouth, west ham, huddersfield.  easily the best run.  can see them getting 4-6 points out of this.

it's going to be tragic for o/s aussies to see 2 of our best relegated from top flight - ryan and mooy- i think ryan would have a harder time getting a job back up top.

Hopefully, Alex Robertson chooses us although the fact he's another midfielder which we have plenty of depth through the national pool doesn't make the hype worth it at this stage.

If he was a striker or a defender it might be a different story.

Remember we got hyped by Brad Smith? He chose to play for the England u17 side at the world cup and now he's with us playing in the MLS, so there is alot of water that needs to put under that bridge especially when you're 15.

So Leeds scored after a Villa player went down injured and Villa are crying foul. Absolute garbage. Play on unless the ref blows! Villa are then let to score from the kick off and Jansson tried to stop it as he was having nothing of it.

The games becoming a joke when it comes to crap like this, every time someone has a lie down the opposition has to give them a goal,  his "injury" had no impact on the goal other than idiots who can't play to the whistle. Realistically he could've been called for a foul.

Yeah it's quite crazy how a new manager can even bench someone like Ryan due to a new style or playing favourites. Crazy world.

could easily happen.  looks like a potentially shitty year coming for ryan.  i think his boss will land a job as soon as he wants one.  playing a 4 5 1 in defence with murray up front, but in their own half, seemed a bit daft though.  they had nothing to lose but they set themselves up to solely defend.  i suppose that kind of thing happens when survival is on the line, the team falls into a defensive mentality.

reckon that will be a good move for him? football manager says he will be as a good a player as arzani

Hard to tell since he hasn't played much football this season. Chianese took his potential spot essentially...which is fair enough as Italiano had an injury and isnt with us next season.

I was excited when he played under Lowe and was hoping he would be a key player along with Castro and Ikon this year. But in his one game this season he was a bit rusty and didnt light up the pitch...which was expected due to being out for a while. But still...suspect he may be following the steps of Yeboah unfortunately but hopefully proven wrong. Same club Yeboah started at from memory too.

The most in form striker eligible for Australia is this guy

https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mattia-montini/profil/spieler/130368

7 goals in 10 appearances in the Romanian league

Adam Taggart is also in good form but my criticism of Taggart is his lack of physical attributes; not tall enough, fast enough or strong enough just someone who can shoot well.

We really oughta take a look at montini, no other striker we have is in better form by a long stretch apart from maybe Taggart who also deserves a call up

just confirming you wanna play the same style we have for the last 10 years lob a cross in and hooe someone heads it.. no coming deep or getting in behind?

Iredale leaves Heerenveen
Iredale announces via Twitter that he is happy that he was able to play one last game for Heerenveen. "There have been many ups and downs in the last two seasons, but I can only take the positive from my time at the club. Now I'm looking forward to my next adventure!"

The decision of the club will undoubtedly have to do with the rising wage costs for Iredale, who as a player from outside the EU must earn considerably more than the average youth player.

nope. celtic did nurse him through injuries but lennon was generally shit to him. same with maclaren and brattan when they were under him.

Celtic fans on twitter sound like they cant wait to see the back of rogic,  general feeling is that he peaked a few seasons ago and has not been consistent enough,  also seems to be a running joke that he is a 60 min player..   which is similar to his form with the socceroos,  maybe a fresh club would do him a favour..

Hey Guys,
Good news is the mens team of SV Wehen Wiesbaden got promoted the Bundesliga 2 for next season after beating Ingolstadt. Home game first leg was 1-2 to Ingolstadt
and the away game was 3-2 to Wehen.
Update Finally:
Noah decided to leave the Wehen Academy mid March after having endured 7 months of physical and mental mobbing by a group of players.
I was pretty disappointed for him as he had worked pretty hard to get there.
In the months since leaving he went to a private goalkeeper trainer in Wiesbaden on Sundays and was invited to train with SG Germania Wiesbaden.
On May 23 Noah joined SG Germania Wiesbaden.
He is now being trained by an A licence,DFB Punkt, talentförderung trainer which is great but he'll need to get scouted again and hopefully find a new academy to join in the next years.
The good thing is that scouts are around all the time so with a good season who knows.
Here he is in goal for his new team today. He can officially play friendlies and tournaments at present but has to wait 3 months before he can play league games as he left before the transfer period.

contracts out but why move?  he's back in top flight now.

I doubt they will offer him a new one..I read when he was signed from Palace (i think he went from EPL to Championship?) he was one of the clubs top wage earners..   probably keen to get his salary off their books and invest it in signings for the future.

Yokohama F Marinos jump up to second on  the table after a 2-1 win at Shonan in the Kanagawa derby. That's three wins in a row in the league for Ange and only 3 points off ladder leaders FC Tokyo who play tomorrow as does the rest of the league.

That is amazing.

Top job Ange.

Big drop from Thai 1 to NPL 1?

apillay12 - 9 Jun 2019 4:57 PM

yeah, I think he played NPL in Queensland before he left to play in Asia. Only thing he's got going is that he's a pretty massive bloke so he would've been good for those Asian leagues.

Curran struggled in Thailand, his team [Sukhothai] went on a long stretch of poor form not long after he signed. He got his pants pulled down [figure of speech] in the game against Port FC, the Thai league was a giant step up from where he was playing in Malaysia. If he didn't have a Malaysian passport, there's no way he'd have ever have played professionally in Malaysia or Thailand, he's very average imo.

Not sure how many games you watched in Thailand but Curran Ferns was a standout in the Thai league.. He was recruited from Malaysia as Sukhothai's ASEAN (5th visa) quota player to help them avoid relegation last season. Under the rules last year, only 4 of the 5 visa players could start a game and be on the field the same time, He started about half the games, and came off the bench roughly the other half depending who they played and tactics. As a defensive player, the team would often need to use its attacking foreigners as a priority in games. Sukhothai improved and finished mid table well clear of relegation The club re-signed him for 2019 season with fellow Aussie Ian Ramsey, but he has run into difficulty with Thai FA introducing another rule now requiring all ASEAN foreigners to have gained 3 international caps before they can play.   I am aware because I play in Malaysia, know most of the expat players, and watch the Thai League games. He has returned to Australia to resume playing in a physical league, and prepare for 2019-2020 season,.

Oh wow! Fair enough! so you expect him to go back to Thailand/Malaysia? Lots of different perceptions on here. It's good to see.

shame. leaves them 1 point off second place.  again on top of the goals scored in the j league.  but getting hammered in goals conceded.  ange needs to suck it up and just splurge on the best 2 central defenders he can get and that can who look after themselves without his instruction.

Im thinking whod be in that. Can think of Kamsoba, Traore, Gan and Ramsay. Pretty sure Im forgetting a few. Dont think Georgievski still gets Macedonian caps. If you made it an ANZ thread you could mention former A-League player and NZ international Tyler Boyd who now plays for USA

Those four are good shouts. You could add Matthew Davies, the Ingham bros, Roux and Gianni Stensness as well.

I think there’s a few in the NPL and the lower leagues as well. Mitch Cooper has been called up by Vanuatu and Thomas Deng’s brother has been called up by South Sudan in the past as well. Johnny Hall and
Marcus Alimonti both play for Sāmoa as well. I’m sure there are more as well.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Pacifique Niyongabire (Kamsoba’s brother) called up for Burundi in the future and Kenny Athiu for South Sudan.

For all the flak that Celtic cops, it's worth remembering that players such as Virgil van Dijk played there before moving to the Premier League. While Liverpool and Arsenal are both, supposedly, considering signing Kiernan Tierney. So you can definitely go places from there. Here's hoping that Daniel Arzani has success there then either goes directly into a Man City starting team or gets onsold to another big club in the Premier League, Bundesliga, La Liga, etc..

And that's the thing. Playing for Celtic, in the pressure cooker environment that is Glasgow. Where players are put under such extreme scrutiny (moreso then most/all places). Where they must preform every time. Where losing isn't an option. Add all that with the added challenge of playing in Europe. Excel under those conditions, and you will attract the interest from those clubs in bigger/better leagues.

The Celtic board does not stand in the way of those players who wants to move on when potential transfers come calling. All the prospective club needs to do is meets Celtic's asking price when it comes to the transfer fee.

And, while there (at Celtic), the player has a very high chance at winning some silverware along the way.

The league might not be all that great, but it's not who you play against with Celtic, it's who you play for that goes along way when potential transfers came calling.

Absolutely. Russia is the 6th highest ranked in UEFA. Scotland is 20th.

The pressing of Yokohama is impressive.  A step up from what Australia was producing under Ange.  They also seem to be less afraid of the more direct balls which was sacrilege for the Socceroos under him.  Perhaps a sign of faith within their own counter press in case possession is lost.

Yokohama win to go outright second although 3 and 4 have games in hand.  They are now 3 points off of 1st.  Yokohama play some very impressive and technical football.

ACL qualification is paramount this season (top 3). The last time that happened was 2014 and even then that only was because they won the Emperor's Cup.

It's most likely a misunderstanding based on a tweet. Degenek simply wished Red Star good luck before their Champions League game. He said something like "good luck Star, may we all experience the good times again". Which the Serbian media took as a hint that he's coming back. I'd wait for something more official.

Did she say she was skeptical about the idea of playing in Europe?

She gets to currently play half a season in Perth amongst her family and then the other half of the season in the US where her partner lives whilst earning pretty good money. Wouldnt say it lacks ambition but the current setup works for her.

Zulte Waregem Vs Willem II Friendly - Timotheu started for Zulte and the first Belgian report I read suggested he played well.

Timotheu came off on 57 mins. Dylan Ryan came off the bench on 68 mins. This is the last friendly for Zulte before their season starts on 28 July

For Brighton vs Fulham - Francois continued to get some minutes, coming on in 82nd minute.

PSV are quite thin at the back so they were always going to get someone. Unfortunately they're looking at signing Baumgartl from Stuttgart. He's young and experienced at bundesliga level. While good for a howler or two, the Dutch League will be a notch down where he'll probably defend quite well. This isn't good news for Sainsbury but now is the time for him to really deliver and prove his worth.

Bournemouth are signing Billing, not Mooy, from Huddersfield

He's had some good games but has incredibly slow and is just 'big.'

Anyways at least Mooy will be playing all the time at Huddersfield. It is annoying he's at that level when he did well in the EPL.

Elder on bench for Leicester vs. Stoke. They are playing two friendlies concurrently and he is with what seems to be the starting XI.

Same thing every summer where we get our hopes up that he might at least be included in the squad only to get loaned last minute. I'd much rather he get settled at another club on loan earlier in pre season. If he does make the Leicester squad I don't think he'd play much.

True, really it's the safest best from a Socceroos point of view, at least we'll know he'll be playing and playing well at a decent level every week for Hudders if he stays, but who knows where he could end up if he goes.

Cruijff shield between PSV and Ajax. Ajax lead 1 0 early. Sainsbury not in 11 and I have no bench information. I laugh at how the PSV fans moan about their defence every time. A fit and confident Sainsbury is a very good player. He's been in a rut for a long time and needs to get out of it.

They got too many game-losing defenders. Only 1 game Sains got bad publicity, the errors weren't even his fault.

ESPNFC to back that up. Van Bommels problem is he caves in to the fans. He'll be gone soon at this rate.

Losing 1-3, but only with the last goal in the 92nd minute, after rotating pretty much his entire team on the 75th minute, against what looks very much like a first team City side.

heard they picked up 58% possession against man city. very likely the only time that guardiola's man city team have had less possession

1:1 currently. Sainsbury on a yellow. He's on the bench. He must have said something.
By johnszasz - 31 Jul 2019 5:30 AM

So it's a yellow for arguing with a Basel player on the sideline over a throw in. At least he's keen on every little thing. Seems customary at PSV. Some guy also got a yellow without playing a minute last season.
By johnszasz - 31 Jul 2019 5:32 AM

Maty played the full match as Brighton ran out 2-1 winners over a full-strength Valencia at The Amex Stadium in Brighton’s final hit-out before the start of the PL next weekend.

Great start for Hrustic seeing though last season he did not get a single goal and only played 1014 minutes. New manager or got his shit together?
Sainsbury only got 2 starts last year for 236 mins so promising start for him.
And damn Souttar looks like a real find, I know its only League One he is playing in, but he is still only 20yo and how do we not have him in the box for corners for these upcoming qualifiers, especially against these smaller asian teams.

In other news:
John Iredale come on at 80th min for Carlisle (League 2)
Jordan Lyden played a full game for Swindon (League 2)
Mebrahtu came on in 62nd Minute for Puskas Academy (Hungary top flight)

Man I almost prefer Grob over Mooy, Mooy is so fukn slow... bogs down every team he plays for !

Needs to get out of first gear or he doesn't suite that team at all.

Groß is a top player. Pröpper has been a liability for a while.

They've got young Bissouma. How have I missed him? He's played 34 games for them already. His stats would reflect he's more defensive.

Mooy would be a solid addition to consolidate their midfield.

BBC Sport had a little bit at the bottom of an article that Elder might be moving to Hull permanently.

Beat me to it.
This would be good news. I was expecting he’d go to a League 1 team but to get a deal in the championship with an ambitious team and also playing alongside Irvine would be good news for Australia (assuming he gets game time). He was always unlikely to break into the Leicester team
By zarate - 8 Aug 2019 11:19 PM

POTTER: MOOY DEAL CLOSE
Brighton are "close" to completing a deal for Huddersfield midfielder Aaron Mooy ahead of the transfer deadline, according to manager Graham Potter. Australia international Mooy made 65 Premier League appearances for the Terriers during the past two seasons before their relegation in May. "I think we're close at the moment but nothing to announce formally," said Potter. "But he's a player we like, of course, and we hope that we can get it finalised today. "He's had experience of promotion out of the Championship and he's also had experience of being in the Premier League and, in terms of a character, we like him a lot. His attributes as a footballer, I think they fit into our group."I'm reluctant to go into too much detail, forgive me, because he's not our player."

Highlights of Borrello against 3rd Div Magdeburg in the Cup. He’s no.21 on the right wing and gives the last pass for the goal. Think he wanted it back and was in good position, but his teams mate kept it. That guy looked pretty good though, with a couple of long range efforts.

MVB just stated pre game on Dutch Fox Sports that Sainsbury and Luckassen are permitted to leave PSV if they wish. They'll need to keep 1 to have 4 CB's. Luckassen has the potential but needs practice. Sainsbury does have the versatility to offer himself in a midfield role but it's a massive mountain to climb. I can see Luckassen sorting a season long move. Sainsbury needs to be in touch with his agent immediately. Even a loan move just to get away for a time is fine.

Maybe Sains just isn't as good as we think he is? Some of you blokes are deluded if you think he can hop from not playing a game at PSV straight into the Bundesliga.

He did play a game a few weeks ago, and reportedly went well, but then was overlooked. I have had Foxtel for a few years and watched a bit of Bundesliga 2 when Leckie was playing in that division, as well as Bundesliga. Granted he hasn't played a lot of football the last few years, but for mine, he wouldn't look out of place at a lowly Bundesliga Club, and too good to be playing Bundesliga 2. That is the basis for my comment. Ko note that you haven't nominated where you think he should aim for!

So much negativity.
Just breathe brother.
Do you forget he captained a Swiss premier league side before the World Cup playing as a CDM? Do you remember he was signed by zwolle as a kid and played for them regularly when he wasn’t injured?

of course. clubs need to look back 8-10 years ago to convince themselves to sign a player... again this means absolutely nothing.

by the way he was signed by zwolle when he was 22 years of age, hardly a kid.

not negativity, just realistic. the cold hard facts are sainsbury has barely played 20 club games in the last several years.

The problem with that is he’s one of our best defenders, how many are in his level overseas? Maybe Bailey Wright or Degenek? I don’t think they are better players likes Sains where he can offer more as a ball playing defender.

But the concerning part is the CBs stocks are very thin and he happens to be one of our best if not the best option if we’re to make a starting lineup tomorrow.

I was looking at Carlisle line up trying to find iredale in the front line and it tunrd out he is a left back.

I thought he was the young player at Heerenveen scoring goals last season in the reserves.

Now i don't know who the player is i have been searching and can't find anything

There's 23 year old LB Jack Iredale at Carlisle and then there's the 20 year old striker John Iredale who was at Heerenveen last year and is now with Wolfsburg II. He has six scorer points from the first five games of their fourth-tier season so far.

Let them simmer in the league a year or two
By johnszasz - 22 Aug 2019 1:18 AM

I wonder how these players would stack up with the national team. We know the collective ability of lower league sides. Would Lyden or Iredale be lifted around the playing group and play an absolute blinder? There's plenty of talent to be unlocked in a footballer. We often see lower tier players at the WC for other nations who don't fare all that badly.

We'll only know if we select them and they get on the pitch. The current 11 still has somewhat of an immunity. Every cycle someone comes from absolutely nowhere. Last time it was certainly Degenek and Nabbout.

Did he remember to bring the ring? There was a Scottish article I read a week or two back and it said he was missing one of the CL qualifiers because he was getting married back in Australia and he wasn't fit to play anyway.

Some talk on Celtic Twitter that Arzani is training with the first team and somewhat ready to play but just not getting the minutes yet (Lewis Morgan has been preferred much to the anger of some fans.) Might play tommorow night against Hearts maybe.

He is training with the first team.

I thought it was a pretty clear cut red. Still feeling confident after that dissallowed goal though.

Can't see Mooy playing in this one. Freiburg sitting back here a little to comfortably. Ball hasn't been in there attacking half the entire second Half 56' .

No time for Leckie today. 3 other attackers got the nod. He simply doesn't get enough scorer points to justify selection. The sooner he concerts to a full back the better I think.

While I agree, I feel these two absolutely choke whenever in the national team and they're not long term prospects. We're stacked in midfield but perhaps Ruka can fill the rank Boyle had in the pecking order.

Always been scapegoated this guy and when he's been played in his wrong position to boot... hes a striker not a winger, has always played his best football at cf imo

full b-team but great to get a run out.  it's a rough transfer for mooyle being bought in the week of the first game. deosn't really give him a great start.

brighton have done some very good business over the transfer window. trossard looks the goods. a player that will be genuinely able to win the match for a team.  maupay as well, very good.  and mooy needs no plaudits on here.

potter really has the team humming along. some great football. from the form of their first three games i think they have an honest shot at top half of the table and maybe 6 or 7 if breaks go their way. i just hope the loss/red card and draw don't dampen their spirits too much. can't wait until they play some of the big boys.

Arsenal really wanted Troussard so he’s a great pickup for Brighton and looks like it will pay off for him too because they guaranteed him game time.

He spent plenty of time in Belgian Div2, so is another great example of how regular game time benefits young players.

Holland starting in CL qualifying. Massive for him but I totally forgot. I wrote him off as a national team player long ago. Maybe he'll be a late bloomer and hit some top form. I just found him so wasteful with the ball and always too far to shut down danger in defence.

7 scorer points in 7 games, I know it's only 4th tier but at age 20 that's pretty exciting.

It's that presence he can get in front of goal and then actually finish the thing. This poaching and poise is what we need against Asian opposition. I'd call him up with Taggart and Giannou. He was called into Arnold's first training camp so he's on the radar.

John did you view the video. Second goal the announcer I think says the goal scorer was Marx which is what my app says. In the 4 or 5 German articles I read (via google translate) they all said Marx got the 2nd goal.
Even if he only has 4 goals in 7 games, he is starting and playing for a top team in that division (undefeated in 7) after a long injury layoff and he is playing for them after only a week or two preseason. It’s good news even if he isn’t scoring every week. Would be great if this team got promoted to the third division.

I'll look for some footage

Macabbi Haifa play against another team from Haifa Saturday night. Reports have their most experienced CB as indefinitely injured. The rest are quite young and very lowly valued on the market. Not to say they're poor though. There's another young CB who seems to have achieved the level.

Sainsbury will be playing regularly soon enough. Quite happy it's all over. Unlike PSV Facebook and now follow Macabbi.

*Maccabi.  They play Hapoel Haifa on the weekend which is a derby for them. A traditional Maccabi-Hapoel rivalry, the two main sporting clubs in Israel (most cities have a Maccabi club and Hapoel club).
Maccabi Haifa are a big deal in Israel. Along with Beitar and Maccabi Tel Aviv they are one of the biggest clubs in both a football sense and fan base.

Let me get this straight, the sport club spans across cities instead of one city with multiple sports? The only equivalent I can think of in Germany would be representing the army in sport. I know those names are common in teams but never looked it up. At the same time, would Macabbi Haifa and Maccabi Tel Aviv have anything to do with each other?

Maccabi is the worldwide Jewish sports club. There are Maccabi clubs in every state of Australia, and most countries in the world. Hapoel is an Israeli left wing sports club which exists in most Israeli cities (Hapoel Hadera, Hapoel Tel Aviv, Hapoel Jerusalem), and Beitar is a right wing club. Two Maccabi clubs wouldn’t be aligned or anything, however.

‘It’s mind-blowing to go from school friends to Premier League team-mates’ – Brighton’s Aussie duo go way back The rapport between them is apparent as soon as they enter the room. Aaron Mooy and Maty Ryan, both dressed in black T-shirts, are discussing in knockabout fashion one of Britain’s most renowned retailers. Mooy refers to his favourite food outlet by initials, Ryan recognises Marks & Spencer only by the full title. They fit together too, Australian international colleagues and team-mates at Brighton in the Premier League following Mooy’s season-long loan switch from Huddersfield at the end of the summer transfer window. It has reunited the midfielder with goalkeeper Ryan, now in his third year at the club. The friendship goes much deeper and much further back, to a school field in Sydney where, early in the morning, Mooy would bash balls at Ryan to save. The poignancy of their journey is still sinking in. Ryan, speaking to The Athletic with Mooy in an exclusive joint interview, said: “The other day we had a...”

Is Federici genuinely the #1 GK at Stoke now? He’s only played the one game this season so not sure if it’s a once-off or not.

If he’s a #1 GK playing in the Championship then agree would be awesome to integrate him back into the Socceroos squad with Vuka and Langerak out injured.

There’s also always Brad Jones of course but he’s pretty old these days.

Butland has been terrible, heaps of pressure on Nathan Jones to drop him. Federici will play if Butland is dropped.

Damn! Ryan was terrible in this game... havent saved any for the whole game.

? he saved a few.

he can't be blamed for any of the goals. came out on silva for the first one but if he didnt he would have left silva open for a shot.

he "might" have stopped the bernardo silva goal but that was planted into the ground and bounced off the turf.

ryan's only mistake was a wayward pass towards the end of the game the was picked up by the left back anyway.

looks like brighton will lean towards gross for an attacking option in midfield when they are behind.  maybe look to mooy to hold the game and stablise.

considering there are only 2 midfield slots in this formation, mooy is going to have a tough time getting minutes.

at what point do we compare matt ryan with mark schwarzer?

Good question, thinking of the answer to that really gave me a chance to relish Schwarzer's achievements.

Schwarzer was the first non-British player to make 500 EPL appearances, and remains as having the most EPL caps of any non-British player. Ryan still has 424 matches to make it to the 500 club.

Schwarzer was still able to play for Chelsea in the Champions League and is the oldest player to ever play in the UEFA Champions League knockout stage, Ryan played two CL qualifiers for Valencia when he was 23 against Monaco but hasn't made the group stage of that competition yet, and would obviously need to go to a bigger club than Brighton for that to be likely.

Ryan won the cup in Belgium once, but Schwarzer won silverware in England, winning the League Cup with Boro, although perhaps most notably Schwarzer played his part in the Leicester squad in their historical EPL title.

Ryan is still 27, so hopefully he can achieve more.

Celtic Reserves are playing tonight and no Arzani. Mazis is on the bench. Please God its a sign that NL wants him in the first team squad for the league cup quarter final match against Partick on Thursday morning.

It’s a miracle if it is. If he features at all for the first team Thursday morning we should have a 442 forum public holiday in celebration

Rukavytsya starting. Sainsbury not in squad for midweek game. Not sure whether this is due to his own goal, rotation, fitness or injury.

Very surprised this hasn’t been mentioned; Peter Gwargis (20), who was born in Sydney and is eligible for Australia, made his debut for Brighton in the League Cup this morning against Aston Villa, played 90 minutes, and got an assist.

0:1 vs China. I was there. Shit night.
2 min vs 3:0 win over Ireland.
88min in the 2:0 loss in Slovenia.
71min vs Lebanon away.
90min away beating Iraq (thanks Archie) and South Korea in qualifying and a friendly (Ruka and Cornflakes) respectively.
90min in that 3:2 mess against Romania in Spain.
53min in that horrendous 2:2 Oman game in Sydney (Bozza rant)
90min for 6 in Paris then 90 vs Canada under Vidmar.
73min vs South Africa pre world cup shit kick. Was stuck in Lorne with no internet.
70min 0:0 vs UAE away.

His last game was 5 years ago. Nearly every match he's played in has been meaningless or poor. Not only by himself but the team as a whole. He's not lifted my heart once for the national team It has been quite a long time and he is perhaps a late bloomer. That's great for a career that did seem on the downward slide around 4 years ago. Currently I still just can't see him being more suitable than Mooy, Luongo, Rogic, Irvine, Jeggo, Amini, both O'Neill's and even Hrustic for a midfield slot. The same goes for Ruka against Taggart, Leckie, Borrello, Mabil, Ikon, Boyle, Arzani, Giannou and even Maclaren.

Probably more suited as a direct swap for Jedinak when we were playing in that style rather than any of those guys.

Still a decent option in games where our focus is to maintain shape and we want an out and out holding midfielder

Ryan is going to be having a rough night. Mooy seems to be getting used at the front of a loaded midfield, essentially as a way of maintaining possession on the left and then playing it back across I suspect.

Maupay is probably worst striker in EPL. Couldnt hold, pass or shoot. When the ball came to him u already know he would fuck it up.

Trezeguet is up there with him. Glad to see I'm not the only one baffled by these appointments. To his credit he did well at Brentford and we won't know his suitability at EPL level until he plays.

Borrello on bench. Freiburg have a lot of good attacking options. At least they're playing a front 3 to give as many a run as possible. I guess a 442 would increase the chances that bit more with 2 strikers and wingers but match time will come.

Agree. As someone whose watched all their games this year their standard of play has improved albeit they've had next to no luck this season. Having said that the coach has made a bad move loaning outing some of their talented yet perceived to be bad influence players given their recent run of injuries which has left them very thin - these loaned out players im speaking about are Andone (Galatasaray), Locardia (Hoffenheim) and Knockaert (Fulham). All 3 would be starting currently on talent and given the recent injuries but Potter is really into personality tests and team dynamics and so he's perceived these guys as bad influencers in regards to winning mentality

How about Connolly! A 19 year old striker making his first full Premier League debut goes and scores a classy brace against Spurs.

Was worried Maty and Mooy would be left in a team without real firepower since Brighton loaned Andone and Locadia, but Connolly looks the goods!

Spurs looked like a different team today. Love to know wtf is going on with them.

Connolly actually looked rubbish making runs around the box off Mooy and Grob in the first half, nfi how he scored 2 goals.

I take back everything I said about Maupay, unless he screws it up next week. He still had trouble manufacturing that final bit of quality dribble, even pass. I am still sceptical.

What a win though.

@highkick

You think Connolly looked rubbish?? He was literally man of the match!

I thought he played well all game, making fantastic runs and getting in great positions. Again, it was his PL starting debut and he’s 19. Seems you’re quite hard to please.

In the first half he looked like a chook scrambling around the ball. He stood out as the worst of that front 4. He made poor runs or lost the ball.

His first goal was a gimme, second was pretty good despite how completely shit obviously Tottenham played while using there bench GK.

I've never been as optimistic as you :)

I knew Maupay scored 2 goals in his previous games , but he redeemed himself last night, was a real nuisance all night for Tottenham.

Surprised Mooy kept up, however he was completely stuffed. On the other hand, Grob ended up running less than Mooy which is a credit to Mooy really. I like him where he's playing for Brighton and he's quite lucky to have found a team who will play him higher up the pitch like that. Pretty cool for him albeit, perfect time in his career.

@highkick

Agree with you on Mooy - great to see him playing so advanced this season. The team sheet listed him as a #8 but again he was more of a #10/inside forward.

That was also his 3rd PL start in a row, so from a Roos perspective he’s ticking both boxes in that he’s starting games and playing as an attacker.

Absolutely love what Potter has been doing with the team, they are so good in possession. Much better than watching the bus parking shite under Hughton

When Trossard returns, my God! OK issue is Trossard plays on left and there might be a a reshuffle but Mooy is in such good form it'd be silly to drop him.

They might reshuffle into a 3atb and get them both in. But Potter likes to rotate a lot and by a lot i mean all the time. If i was to guess Mooy would be very safe in away matches and against stronger teams, he might get a rest in an easy home match though.

Some of Mooy's deliveries and defending could see him keeping his spot. idk . Trossard can take Connolly's spot wouldn't both me, those runs Maupay was making , if Trossard can replicate that I'm sure Mooy could serve some good balls.

Brighton fans on Mooy after spurs game

"
I never realised how good Mooy is until yesterday. When we signed him I thought he was just a bog standard midfielder who would do a job without being outstanding. Today he was an absolute beast. If it weren’t for Connolly he’d have been MOTM. There is no way he’s being dropped any time soon. Same for Alzate. So I think Propper may have to wait for an injury or suspension to get back in."

"Spot on.

I also thought that Mooy was signed as a decent midfielder to plug the gaps for when we had injuries. But today he bossed the midfield and was the heart and soul of the side. He has a great ability to keep possession in tight spots, hold off strong challenges and then play an attacking pass. It made me feel like I had opened all my Christmas presents and then found one more under the tree a couple of hours later that turned out to be the Scaletrix that I always wanted."

"Agreed. So strong, so good with the ball and surprisingly agile too. Let’s just sign him up now, there’s no way he’s going back to Huddersfield."

I've never seen Dykes play before. Looked a lot like Juric - good at holding the ball up, and his finish tonight is the sort of goal I'd expect Juric to bag. I didn't see great tough from Dykes otherwise though, his passing game was nothing to write home about.

Yeah ok maybe he isnt a technical wizard but watching that goal tonight and reading this back story on him, there is something fearless and energetic about him. We need all the possible options upfront we can get for the roos. Call him up for a friendly or the next came, see what role he could bring.

The issue with Holland and Rukavytsya is that they had ample chances under the Holger regime and even more since then. It's uncanny that it just doesn't click in a gold shirt. Same goes for Vidosic.

Simple pass from Holland to the winger who crosses it in, free header, 3-1.  They're not gonna be happy with van Bommel.
4-1 now

And yet still holland even get picked in the roos squad..

What Ange has done is just amazing. So many more goals than the other sides.

Jump to Bundesliga 2?!?! Mate the level he is at (top of denmark) is above bundi 2 (most of it anyway). Mydtylland are rated around about the very bottom bundi 1 sides, very top bundi 2 sides. Given his age it would be a small jump up to a mid to bottom Bundi 1 team say a Mainz.

Yeah around that. His club compared to the top of bundesliga 2 possess a lot more in many aspects. The power bundesliga has been fairly poor so far. I wouldn't mind a move to Augsburg or Mainz.

big change for Mooy going from 60 or so games a season to one a month.

he was going to have issues getting minutes when Trossard came back. do you think he is getting punished for the red card that cost the game against Aston Villa?

It will be interesting to see if he starts with Trossard out injured again.  https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/brighton-dealt-major-injury-blow-3547162

Johnszaz - I see that Noah Botic is scoring regularly for Hoffenheim U/18’s In his first season. And I see their u/23 team aren’t going so well this season.
How does the youth system work over there in Germany - is there a chance he could be promoted to their u/23 squad or will they likely just leave him in the u/18 squad till he reaches the 17/18 age limit?
I notice some of our joeys in the English academies have trained up and played up age groups - eg caleb watts occasionally training and playing for Southampton’s u/23’s despite still being young enough for their u/18 team.

He’s been scoring regularly but he didn’t even start their last game. Let him integrate and adapt, before placing high expectations on him

Mate, Amini has started week in week out in Europe for years now. Mcgree plays in the a-league against much weaker players. How can you put mcgree over Amini?

Amini is playing in one of the mid-level European leagues, it's not like he is playing in one of the top leagues. More relevantly in terms of the Socceroos, I've not yet seen Amini do anything when he has played for the national team. So I would be giving an opportunity to a younger player who is currently tearing it up in the A League, rather than play someone who has been given chances but not impressed for the national team, irrespective of whether he is playing in Europe.

Piscopo is far better off staying in the Italian system than coming back to Australia. First of all Serie C is the same level as the A-league, but with far more intensity and training. He could make the jump up to Serie B in one season and possibly find himself in the Serie A before he's 25.

If he comes back to Australia, he'd receive half-assed training and the longest off-season in the world.

it's almost impossible to make it into a serie A team as a young player nowadays not many young talents head there anymore

Wisla Plock's other RB Cezary Stefańczyk is actually serving a long term ban for raising his hand at the ref when disputing a decision so McGing has next to no chance of getting dropped.

It's extremely early days and Atkinson is a gun. If he keeps it up there might be an Australian training camp invite one day. Essentially everyone is on the radar.

I don't feel the same confidence on Mooy getting a move. I get that he's good enough for the prem, but so are a lot of other guys. Being too good for the championship doesn't guarantee you a good move,  you have to be better value than all the other options that premier league clubs have access to, which includes guys in the prem and all across Europe. It's less in Mooy's hands and more to do with how the whole market shapes up.

I can agree partly with what your saying but he has premier league experience which is invaluable bringing people across from other leagues is a much bigger risk...thats how Mahrez ended up at city and not Malcolm or some other brazilian winger.. even Pep has said it takes players alot more time to adjust.. Mooy wont need to.

Really do wonder how much Aussie players suffer when they are with foreign coaches.

By that I mean, the culture shock, difficulty in translation of language. Must fuck ones head trying to fit in with addditional barriers. Not just performance factors.

One hit to confidence like Behich has taken could be hard to recover from. I do wonder what they use as motivation during these struggles .

There are certainly many factors. There's bound to be a bit more of pessimism on ability due to the national team decline but that'd be naive from a manager. The golden generation were a stern bunch that owned the training pitch but weren't without their challenges.

Timotheu making the schalke squad has got to be one of the biggest stories of the season so far. I know I may be a little over the top here but OMG! unbelievably exciting!!

The reason that makes me talk it down is because he's been playing 5th tier all season which wouldn't be any better than Conference level in the UK. Nevertheless, being observed by Huub Stevens and then entrusted with joining the matchday squad after doing well in training is a massive compliment.

Arzani's knee is more result of bad genetics. Would have happened regardless of where he was playing.

I know some were saying Scotland grass is soft n shit but we've only just recently seen how bad one of our pitches is.

My belief is the same shit would have happened here if he had have taken that awkward turn.

100% so lets just see how his op goes and if he comes back like Walcott or even Rhyan Grant - he doesn't seem to be slowing down.

so the freezing weather and significant amount of training he probably went through after a world cup didn't have anything to do it..? Rogic is always injured... even if he says he's fit he is still usually carrying something... they are playing on concrete.. you can see the way rogic tackles sometimes.. he's scared to go to ground..

One of those rarities just occurred in the Aarhus game. A Vejle player accidentally scored while passing back to the opposing keeper in good sportsmanship. Aarhus then walked one in after the restart.

Not as a starting player by any means but his leadership and ability to cover both DM and CB is a useful combo.

Jedinak was MoTM on WhoScored as well with a 7.7. Certainly hasn’t lost it technically it seems.

His old head would be invaluable at that level but to have him starting on those legs would be very challenging. I'd like to see it but if he's always benched I'd much rather see him come home.
