On visas we have:

1. Heskey
2. Bridges (although there's debate over whether he's naturalised or not yet)

"Wasting a visa spot" isn't an issue for us - wasting a squad spot is though! I fail to see how we can claim to be ambitious when we're after a recycled HAL player who hasn't exactly lit the league on fire, when MV let go & paid the majority of the wages of Flores.

It depends on value for money as well. GVE will have to weigh up where to best spend the $, if he can bring in a decent player at a low salary it could help. IIRC he will soon get his aussie citizenship.

We have plenty of decent players on low salaries, though. Not including Smith we only have 2 spots left, according to HSG. One was meant for an attacker and one for a centre back. If we get Smith, it means we either don't sign Burns and get a centre back or we sign Burns and don't get a centre back. Either way, we're using a squad spot on Smith and missing out on a more vital position. In centre mid we already have Kantarovski, Zadkovich, Caravella, Brown, Oxborrow, Brillante, Pepper & Cooper (edit: and out of them you could say Kanta, Zad, Caravella, Brown and Brillante are right in the mix for a starting HAL spot), and out of them you could say Caravella, Brown, Oxborrow & Cooper are all attacking mids, and Bridges could be classified as an attacking mid too. It's a waste of a vital squad spot to sign Smith IMO.
