Recently from discussions with one particular pre-eminent FFA coach in the sporting landscape, he makes a particularly sage comment, that morons like me should've realised without having had someone else raise it.#-o
When I extol the virtues of players off the ball ability (BPO), like Brosque, Holman, Duke and Simon, in the attacking half of the pitch, and general BPO qualities, he says it is far, far easier to develop these qualities, than Core Skills, such as first touch, 1v1 attacking skills, striking the ball and running with the ball, and, develop game sense.
The German influence added 1v1 defensive skills into our NC. Nevertheless, Verbeek quickly identified that Australia's defensive qualities were far superior to our attacking qualities. Hence, he played in a way conducive to our strengths.

So is the advice at youth levels to concentrate on BP and BP under intensity?
From FFA I think so.
