NPL Update
Further to the Expression of Interest (EOI) submitted by Richmond Soccer Club to the FFV to be part of the NPL competition, a general meeting of members was held on Wednesday evening to consider the matter.
The members passed a resolution not to submit an application to enter the NPL competition based on the financial limitations posed by the current financial model.
The club this year established corporate systems and processes and proper governance and transparent reforms in readiness for the NPL competition. However, without the current revenue streams that would be depleted by so many teams not being part of the NPL, the lack of small sided football and the inability to field more than one team at every age group, the model is unviable.
The club remains committed to the football philosophy introduced this year by coaching advisor Micky Peterson together with a talented group of qualified coaches in developing and nurturing talent through the highly respected youth development program. Its goal is to allow all junior and senior members to be playing at the highest possible level of competition in 2014 as it has done in 2013.
For the benefit of football In Victoria the club urges the FFV and all clubs to focus their energies on a professional, expedient and commercially sensible solution that will enable the 2014 season to take place with a level of competitiveness that is necessary for everyone involved.

Didn't the top Victorian clubs initially quibble like this when the NSL was being set up in the 1970s? I'd guess the FFV (and presumably the FFA) is hoping history repeats and the clubs eventually come around and do a deal.

My understanding of the NSL formation situation is a little different. VSF was angry about potentially losing some of its strongest clubs, while clubs were worried about retribution from the VSF. Mooroolbark broke the deadlock.
