In 1966 Shankly's Liverpool played Ajax and they where played off the park.

It was due to this defeat that Shankly came to realise that to win the European Cup he would have to have a more technical possesion based team. The rest is history.

Liverpool started doing a lot of passing work in a diamond/square with a dot on the training track. One player in the middle would pass the ball backwards, forwards and sideways with the outside players.
