Q: Coaching is obviously a tough gig. Already this season the premiership and championship-winning coach from last season - Mike Mulvey, at Brisbane Roar - has been sacked by his club. As a fellow coach and an experienced one, what did you make of that?

A: I thought it was ridiculous. How can you win the premiership, the championship, coach of the year, Queensland coach of the year and six games into the next season you're sacked? And then people you've never heard of come out of the woodwork and tell you everything you did wrong, his brand of football was wrong and this and that were wrong. Where were they when he was winning? It's extraordinary.

This is a response to a question made by Ernie Merrick in an interview.

I think he has articulated a very plausible response. Must admit, I couldn't believe Mulvey was sacked so quickly after winning a HAL title.

I know a few coaches in the FFA system, who are very content with being a lower profile coach, with a more predictable future than top level performance based pro coaching.

Nearly every coach I know who has embarked on the Advanced Education pathway likes the thought of being a pro coach. If this is the possible scenario at the zenith of coaching, who wants to coach at this level?

Pretty obvious that what has happened here is that Brisbane Roar has a club led playing philosophy.

In Australia we are used to the Coach led playing philosophy.

If Mulvey was not prepared to coach according to the Clubs philosophy then he had to go.
