A brawl involving more than 60 people was among a string of violent incidents, including smoke bombs being set off and bottles being thrown, at an A-League soccer match in Sydney.
Three people were charged, two were issued banning notices, and 18 people were removed during a game between the Western Sydney Wanderers and Sydney FC at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night.
NSW Police Acting Assistant Commissioner Tony Crandell says violent and anti-social behaviour was rife at the match.
"Last night the safety of the public, staff, and police were put at risk by people who have no respect for the sport," he said in a statement.
"It is evident that some supporters came prepared to cause injury and ruin the night for others."
Police allege the violence began even before the game started when a brawl broke out between up to 60 Western Sydney Wanderers supporters and a group of Sydney FC fans outside the stadium.
Police on horseback were called in and officers used capsicum spray to break up the fight, which lasted about 10 minutes.
A number of large bolts, which officers allege were to be used as missiles, as well as a hammer and a flare were found nearby.
Officers also had to break up two separate fights both during and after the game.
Twelve flares were set off during a march to the stadium, and nine more flares and four smoke bombs were ignited inside the stadium.
One man is facing charges after allegedly throwing a bottle, and another man is facing one charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
A woman was arrested for running onto the pitch, and others also had to be removed after entering the playing area.
Damage was caused to about 50 seats and a number of railings at the stadium.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage and more charges could be laid.

They're a bunch of criminal and thugs and have proven so time after time. They don't weed out the rotten apples from within their own group. So none of them can attend in future.
Much stricter ticketing arrangements must be made for the WSW fans to ensure they don't sneak these wankers in. Maybe a families only policy or something.
The RBB must cause about 90% of all friction between the clubs . The solution to stopping the headlines is removing the RBB. It would then be up to the less active WSW fans to create the atmosphere for their team.
The WSW will surely be sent a bill for the damage their fans caused. The WSW should then add on a fine to all members of the RBB to pay the fine. They've got the credit card details. Too hard to identify individuals when they don't sit in the seats they bought. So they all get punished. that last suggestion is something special. Made me laugh also. Clearly not thought out and based on pure emotion. Probably got the shits coz his boyfriend stole his lipstick or something. Um, yeah if you don't think your club will receive a bill from the SCG trust for the vandalism then you're a little delusional. Whether the WSW get sick of paying fines for your damages and start passing it on to those who cause the damage is another matter, and one which they might take up with you sooner rather than later. If not this time, then next derby. The sad reality is, we're the ones who are more likely to foot the bill. On a better note, the more we pay, the less Wanderers tickets we're inclined to sell next time.
