The roar gets a bit of flack on this website but they had an interesting article today on the strange nature of Australia's bowling lately
exceptional against top order batsmen the last few years, perhaps amongst the best we have ever had poor against the tail
This is definitely my perception
I remember how Warne used to mop up the tail so effectively. He would really play on their temptations bowling a flipper that looked like a longhop but would skid on and catch them lbw, he would toss a ball up with a bit of extra overspin to draw a player out - a batsmen might think they were getting a half volley only for it to dip. If he got hit big he would bowl a similar ball slightly slower
Nathan lyon is one of the best spin bowlers I've seen in unfavourable conditions but is hopeless in favourable conditions (5th day, bowling against tail enders, bowling in the sub continent).
We have never had a dominant offie so I don't know if we can give him much instruction about what he is doing wrong. It would be nice if we could hire an offspin coach just for him
