As first revealed by The Herald in October, the A-Leagues struck an agreement to sell a 33 per cent stake in the competition to Silver Lake, sealing the largest single injection of capital into Australian football in the game’s history. The sum values the entire A-Leagues organisation at $425 million.

The private equity firm that now owns Virgin Airlines.

That guy being on the board of the APL & now owning 33% of the league means that they are serious. 

It also means that the clubs & by default Australian professional football are vassals of a private equity firm, remains to be seen how serious they are about their investment or whether Australian football is nothing more than an offset accounting exercise.
