However I reckon it would be a better game if it was played next weekend rather than in two weeks time. Both teams comfortably won their respective semi finals and the momentum is just going to dissipate over the two week break.

Yep. Another symptom of the dumb GF decision. Two weeks off so they can start the 'festival of mediocrity' next weekend so then the GF is the big final event on the following weekend. It's also so interstate fans have time to organise their travel and accommodation plans.
