The card does matter - if the offending player in a foul is sanctioned, then the referee is allowed to stop play and not have the player leave the field. I'm only commenting on the facts you've given, as I haven't seen the incident. 2 minutes is not quickly, that is correct (unless there is a serious/head injury, it should be closer to 1 minute maximum, unless the player is the goalkeeper).


Only if the issue is resolved quickly, as you have agreed 2 minutes is not quickly, he should off been asked to leave.
