Response to our petition:
"I refer to Petition No. 4000-23 regarding the proposal for ‘a mid-sized rectangular stadium forBrisbane at Perry Park’ which was tabled in the Legislative Assembly on 11 June 2024.

I am aware that Football Queensland has developed a Strategic Infrastructure Plan whichidentifies the priority of developing such a stadium at one of three potential locations (which includes Perry Park). Financial support for the proposal is not available at this time, however theQueensland Government continues to liaise with stakeholders including Football Queensland,Brisbane City Council, the Young Men’s Christian Association (the head lessee of Perry Park)and Strikers Sport Recreation and Welfare Association Limited to consider any futureopportunities for the site.

The 2018 Stadium Taskforce Report found that there was no requirement for another boutiquestadium because there is existing capacity in the current suite of stadia. There are currently fourrectangular stadia within an 80-kilometre radius of the Brisbane CBD, which includes SuncorpStadium—the world's best rectangular stadium—and the newly refurbished Ballymore complex. The existing stadia deliver suitable infrastructure for football. Furthermore, a boutique stadiumwas not part of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games bid.

It is my understanding that in addition to the use of Suncorp Stadium, Ballymore Stadium is thecurrent home training base for the Brisbane Roar Men’s team, with both the men’s and women’steams playing home games at Ballymore during the 2023-24 season. I am also aware that afurther facility in the City of Moreton Bay is becoming available for the women’s game as well aslocal club activity.

Accelerate 2022-2025 (Accelerate), the second action plan under Activate! Queensland2019-2029, outlines the Queensland Government’s three-year vision to get more Queenslanders moving, more often. Accelerate will continue to provide targeted and deliberate action and investment through five key commitments, including to ‘champion an industry leading network of infrastructure across Queensland’. Under this commitment, the Department of Tourism and Sport is investing in community sport infrastructure to increase community participation and facility utilisation through quality and accessibility improvements across Queensland.

I trust this information is of assistance.

Yours sincerely
MICHAEL HEALY MP
Minister for Tourism and Sport"
