Ballack offered only half-price one year Chelsea deal
March 10, 2010
According to The Sun, Germany captain Michael Ballack will be offered a new contract by Chelsea, but will have to accept a 50% pay cut.
Ballack arrived at Stamford Bridge in summer 2006 on a contract worth £121,000 per week. However, in a sign of the financial times, according to Ian McGarry in The Sun, Chelsea will offer 33 year-old Ballack only a one year-deal worth half of his current agreement.
Apparently, Blues owner Roman Abramovich is determined not to waste the kind of money on wages that was splashed out on flops such as Juan Veron and Hernan Crespo .
However, Ballack is likely to accept the deal, as he is happy in London and with a clause stipulating a one year extension option, he could remain at Stamford Bridge until the 2012 European Championships.
Midfielder Ballack has been an important part of Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti's plans this season, scoring 4 goals in 29 games so far.
