NSW Premier League Round 7 Preview 05.04.10 22:01
Sydney United's Steven Hayes (left) shown in action against Marconi Stallions' Christopher Nunes during their clash at Marconi Stadium on Easter Saturday Round 7 NSW Premier League action throws up a blockbuster tie between first and second - separated only by goal difference – on the League ladder, Blacktown City FC and Bonnyrigg White Eagles. The clash, to be played at Lily Homes Stadium on Sunday afternoon, will give either side the chance to make some noise in their bid to run out ahead of the chasing pack. Blacktown City FC has been in good form, especially at home, and will certainly provide a handful for the Bonnyrigg defence with the likes of Ante Deur and Tolgay Ozbey in some good touch in recent weeks.
The White Eagles, coming off successive wins against Sydney United and Bankstown City, will fancy their chances of success as attacking trio Jamie McMaster, Daniel Severino and Brad Boardman have each hit their straps in the past month; the latter re-finding his scoring boots after a brief dry spell following his move from Sutherland in the off-season. With both sides remaining the only two undefeated outfits, as well as possessing a lot of confidence to-date, fireworks are expected on Sunday in Seven Hills.
Manly United FC will need to bounce back following their loss at West Sydney Berries last weekend when South Coast Wolves visit Cromer Park. The Wolves have definitely frustrated opponents this season, and their recent run of form – including the defeat of Bankstown City – has Trevor Morgan’s side full of confidence heading into this encounter.
Phil Moss’ Manly United showed much promise in the defeat of Sydney Olympic last time at Cromer Park, though giving up a two-goal lead against the Berries was too much for the team to fathom. Consistency will be the order of the day for the Cromer Park side, in a home match that is certainly there for the taking this Sunday.
Rockdale City Suns return to Bicentenial Park full of confidence after the win at Sydney Olympic last weekend. Mile Todoroski’s men played an almost flawless 90’ minutes against the Blues, illustrating the side’s potential to really give the competition a real shake in 2010.
The Suns opponents, West Sydney Berries, will also have some confidence following the defeat of Manly United FC. Coach John Calleja’s side has started to gel together following a rather indifferent start to the season, and the away clash against Rockdale will be a good guide to measure the Berries chances of challenging for finals football this season.
At Jensen Park, Bankstown City host Marconi Stallions in a must win match for both sides. The Lions’ season is starting to get away from them with the side securing only one win from their opening six matches. Player/coach Peter Tsekenis will be required to find the correct mix for the group against a Stallions side that will still be smarting after their first loss of the season (0-3 against Sydney United).
Lee Sterrey will be hoping his charges bounce back following the loss to the Reds, in-order to keep pace with the top teams on the League ladder.
At Leichhardt Oval, two former NSL sides do battle in a match that could be defining to the season of both clubs. Both A.P.I.A.-Leichhardt Tigers and Sydney Olympic are living very difficult moments at present, as both sides occupy the bottom two placings on the League ladder. The Tigers are backing off a heavy defeat against Sutherland, meanwhile Sydney Olympic lost at home against the newly promoted Rockdale City Suns. A midfield battle is expected with some fabulous ball players lining up for both sides, though it has been in the defensive line that both these sides have leaked goals so far this season. The objective for both teams will be to keep a clean sheet in this match-up.
To close Round 7 fixtures, Sydney United returns home to face Sutherland Sharks, both sides enjoying a successful Easter weekend of football.
Sydney United player/coach David Zdrilic will require his experienced campaigners to be on song and maintain the positives from the recent defeat of Marconi, meanwhile Reds’ top goalscorer Elsid Barkhousir will also be expected to maintain his fine average for the season.
The Sharks have been inconsistent, though the 5-1 drubbing of A.P.I.A.-Leichhardt Tigers last weekend will serve the team well. Scottish import Steve McConologue got his first goal for the club last weekend, and the striker will be expected to bag many more this season. Arguably one of the danger men for Sydney United this Sunday.

Looking to get some revenge against Sutho for the semis last year and after the win this week the boys will be in high spirits think we can get the win and with Bonno and Blacktown playing eachother perfect opportunity to get right up there.
If Olympic can't beat APIA this week they don;t deserve to make the semis and if they lose well that would just be embarrassing but I wouldn't put it past Olympic losing. They really need a win would be their first win in 6 games and might save Marando until their next loss:lol:
