SOCCER: Whitsunday Miners have called on a 16-year-old for back-up in their QSL clash with NQ Razorbacks in Townsville tonight after regular goalkeeper Brad Moss was suspended for three weeks.

Experienced custodian Brett Gutteridge will take the place of Moss, who pleaded guilty to misconduct and retaliation following an incident in last week’s 2-0 loss to Brisbane Strikers at Rangers’ ground.

Moss was sent off, and the Miners decided midweek not to contest the charge.

Young Miners goalkeeper Jack Bartolo will sit on the bench at Townsville as back-up for Gutteridge, the regular custodian for City Brothers in the Mackay premier league.

The Miners will go into the match without the guidance of coach John Sowter, who is overseas undergoing an A-League coaching course accreditation.

But injured striker Troy Mundy said the spirit in the camp was high as the Miners look for a breakthrough win today after a draw and a loss in their first two games against Capricorn Cougars and the Strikers.

Defenders Ben Schaper and Daniel Scotton are unavailable, and Stuart Watkins, Matthew Zappone and Ryan Evetts have been added to the squad.

MINERS: B Gutteridge (GK), C Hooper, R DeBoer, B Neeve (C), G Harvey, E Skien, J Civello, T Masters, M Rhodes, R Evetts, C Moloney, M Zappone, B Burgess, W Jansen, J Bartolo (GK).
