Elnour Mukhtar practises his soccer skills at Miller
A SOCCER program for refugee students has kicked off its third year at Miller Technology High School.
A ceremony was held at the school on Thursday to celebrate the success of the after-school program - the first of its kind in NSW. The ceremony recognised the involvement of students including Elnour Mukhtar (pictured above).
Principal Bruce Axam said the soccer program, which was developed by the University of NSW, helped students with integration, language skills and physical fitness. “Our refugee students typically have had a long and difficult pathway to Australia,” Mr Axam said.
“The most important thing for them is safety and trust.
“Somehow soccer seems to be the universal language.”
