Local soccer matches this weekend

April 30th, 2010

Geelong Advertiser soccer writer Oliver Milman runs the ruler over the Geelong regional teams' chances in State League soccer this weekend.

North Geelong v Malvern City

State League 1

Tonight, Elcho Park, 8.30pm

AFTER a solid performance in a nil-all draw against Bulleen on Monday night, young goalkeeper Tom Dunn is set to keep his spot for tonight's clash at Lara. Dunn has displaced Daniel Zilic, who has made uncharacteristic errors this season. Despite braving a synthetic pitch and having to play two games in five days, the Warriors' only absentee will be Marko Kuna, who has a back problem.

Geelong Rangers v Altona City

State League 2

Tomorrow, Myers Reserve, 3pm

BUOYED by its first victory of the season last weekend, Rangers will be gunning for maximum points against pointless Altona City. Danny Ortiz will miss out after rolling an ankle, with Eduardo Machado or Evan Black set to return to the line-up.

Westgate v Geelong

State League 3

Tomorrow, Ardeer Reserve, 7pm

A TRICKY away game faces Geelong, with the tight pitch and low floodlights at Westgate set to make it a difficult Saturday night encounter for the visitors. Fames Agius is still unavailable, with Daniel Ho doubtful. Matteo Goristo and Troy Hardy, the two-goal hero from last week, should shake off knocks in time for the match.

Corio v Melbourne City

Provisional League 1

Tomorrow, Hume Reserve, 3pm

DESPITE last weekend's loss, confidence is still high at Corio, with the team showing the style of promotion contenders. Drew Corry will still be unavailable until next week, but the home team will be strong favourites to overcome Melbourne City.

Epping City v Bell Park

Provisional League 2

Tomorrow, Duffy St, 3pm

FOLLOWING its first win of the campaign last round, Bell Park will hope to do a similar job against Epping City, a side that was taken apart in the first half by Surf Coast last week.

Hoppers Crossing v Surf CoastProvisional League 2Tomorrow, Grange Reserve, 3pmSURF Coast will be undaunted by its trip to Hoppers Crossing, with both teams recording two wins out of three in the opening rounds. After proving that it can win in impressive fashion without many of its established stars, Surf Coast has every chance of snatching something from the match.
