Germany has suffered a double blow just days before revealing its preliminary World Cup squad as goalkeeper Rene Adler and midfielder Simon Rolfes were ruled out of the tournament in South Africa.

Germany takes on Australia in its first Group D clash on June 13, but will do so without the two Bayer Leverkusen players, Adler and Rolfes, who have succumbed to rib and knee injuries respectively.

I'm unfamiliar with the German side and the German league, so are these players starting 11 players? Or are they only substitutes?

Hadn't heard that about Lehmann, afroman. Anyway, he's def retired from the national team.

ANyway I'm a Werder fan and quite like Wiese, although he is prone to the odd brain-snap, but most keepers are. crazy lot. I thnk Hildebrand's star has faded since moving to Spain a few years back, but Im not totally sure if his time at Hoffenheim has revitalised his hopes. Dont thnk it has.

Still, we're talking bout germany's 2nd and 3rd choice keepers, so its prob not a big issue come WC time. Neuer will step in. We agree on that!

Yeah, did some research after you said taht and he's definitely out. I don't really like him anyway so I'm not complaining. "Jens Lehmann is the type of player who will start a fight with his own shadow, lose and demand his shadow be sent off."

Now that I think about it, Neuer and Wiese are the obvious first two choices. It's an even bigger shame now that Enke killed himself because he'd almost certainly have been called up now.
