Pulse of the Nation
Thursday, 6 May 2010

Perth Glory players Aleks Vrteski and Anthony Skorich were a part of football and music history today as they had their heartbeats recorded for the ‘Pulse of the Nation’ event at Westfield Carousel.

The ‘Pulse of the Nation’ concept will see the heartbeat of thousands of Socceroos supporters being recorded and mixed to a track which will become the official Socceroos World Cup song.

Vrteski and Skorich were two of the first people to have their heartbeats recorded for this exciting initiative which is aimed at building support for the Qantas Socceroos as they gear up for South Africa in June.

The track is written and performed by the Rogue Traders and will be unveiled at the Socceroos farewell match at the MCG in May.

Vrteski said it was a great way to build the hype around the FIFA World Cup and to give all Australians the opportunity to be a part of the biggest sporting event in the world.

“Anything to encourage excitement around the World Cup is fantastic.

“This is a very unique concept and it’s symbolic of how even though we won’t be there with the Socceroos in South Africa, the hearts of thousands of Australians will be,” Vrteski said.
Participant’s heartbeats are being recorded via the use of a digital stethoscope. Of the heartbeats recorded, one hundred of them will be chosen to feature in the song, including a host of celebrities, football fans and more.
