Can I suggest for further asterisked research, Mick Thomas (formerly of Weddings Parties Anything) has a song; written after watching the 2006 World Cup with his girlfriend: "Explaining The Offside Rule To You". It's on a somewhat-hard-to-come-by CD called Casino Trousers, which was released as a bonus disc with the first run of his last album Spin! Spin! Spin!
I didn't know of this, but will definitely check it out!
