AUSTRALIA'S Socceroos lack the scoring and tactical prowess to advance beyond the first round of the World Cup finals, according to star goalkeeper Joey Didulica.

The Geelong soccer export, who has carved out a glittering 11-year career in Europe, believed Australia would rely heavily on its midfield to progress beyond the group stage and would have to grind out a series of low-scoring results.

"I think Harry Kewell is one player who can change the game, so they can rely on him for some magic moments and I think Mark Bresciano can also produce something like that, maybe turn around from 30 metres and shoot a goal. But I think for Australia to do well they've got to gel well as a team," Didulica said.

"The midfielders are the key because Australia doesn't have a world class striker like Mark Viduka, so they'll have to rely on that team aspect and Pim Verbeek will rely on the likes of Vince Grella to deliver that good ball to Kewell or Bresciano to deliver the magic."

Regardless of whether Australia progresses to the knockout stages, Didulica said it was crucial for the Socceroos' standing in world soccer to seriously challenge Germany, Serbia and Ghana in its group matches.
