Everyone is going on about how Pim used the wrong tactics and wrong players to execute them. I think the problem goes back a bit further in that the intelligence gathering and analysis on the opposition is not nearly as good as 2006.
Pim tried to use Culina on the left to counter Mueller and Lahm. Wrong move, not because Culina can' play on the left, but because the real danger man was Ozil in the middle (a fact we have now alerted the other teams to). I think if Culina had started in the middle and given the job of taking him out of the game, the rest of the tactics might have worked, but only if Carney was left back, Chippers left wing, perhaps Beauchamp in centre defence, perhaps Valeri instead of Grella.
I only hope that the research on Ghana and Serbia is a lot more up to date.
