In-form Red Devils playing for win

FORGET relegation, the Ballarat Red Devils are on the march: that's the message from Ballarat coach Dale Harris as his team takes on Banyule City today.
Harris said the Haymes Red Devils viewed today's Victorian Football Federation state league two match at Yallambie Park as another opportunity to gain a position on the ladder and record back-to-back victories for the first time this season.
The Red Devils' fortunes have turned around in the past month, with two wins from three matches. Harris said, the Reds were playing well enough to lift their sights.
"The confidence is really high. The team is feeling now they can achieve greatness, not just avoid relegation," Harris said.
"The boys are now setting goals about finishing as high as possible. We are looking at each match as a chance to win three points, not just score a point.
"Two weeks ago we started seeing that, if we beat a team we go above them. Last week we beat Geelong and we moved above them on the ladder. This week we play Banyule, and if we beat them we move above them. Hopefully it will be the same with Moreland the following week."
Harris credited the turnaround on the pitch with his players taking ownership of how the team was performing.
"It is like the Knights of the Round Table. Everyone, including me, is an equal. Every player has an input," Harris said.
"That is paying off. I am proud of the boys, not just in the way they are playing but in the way the have been working together."
Banyule City sits one position and two points ahead of Ballarat on the state league two ladder.
Harris said Banyule's smaller pitch could work in the visitors' favour if the Red Devils are able to shut down the home team's space to pass the ball around.
