The Spoiler

Workers make off with cash, medals and y-fronts

It looks like a sound spanking from their fiercest rivals capped a pretty bad week for the England squad, as it’s emerged some players had personal items stolen from their hotel rooms during their stay in South Africa.

The Guardian are reporting five staff at the posh Royal Bakofeng sports complex which England were holed up in throughout the tournament have been convicted of stealing an assortment of souvenirs from the players’ rooms, including a medal, £500 cash, a USA shirt from their Group C opener and someone’s (presumably) dirty pants.

Despite the thefts having begun a week ago, the England camp only reported them to police on Saturday. However, by Sunday the culprits had been found and hauled up in front a judge at one of South Africa’s 56 ‘World Cup courts’, specially set up to deal with tournament-related offences (admin costs: 500k p/w). Each was given a three year jail term and £524 fine.

No word on whether the police have yet recovered John Terry’s ability to defend properly. *ba-dum-tssh*
