KENTA Shimizu will be kicking himself this morning after failing to convert the Tweed Valley Kings’ best opportunity of the match in their 0-0 draw with third-placed Magic United at Reg Dalton Oval yesterday.

Having made a break down the wing midway through the second half, the dangerous mid-fielder found himself one-on-one with the away team goal-keeper, only to push the ball wide of the target.

Simon Hurcombe came within millimetres of gifting the Kings the lead in the first half, rattling the bar with a powerful drive just 15 minutes in. “Once again we were on top for most of the match and showed how competitive we can be, but failed to come away with the three points,” TVK’s Milton Pollock said.

Had the Kings found an elusive goal, they would have edged to within one point of fellow cellar-dwellers Runaway Bay. But as it stands, they remain in the relegation red, three adrift of the relegation-promotion play-off spot.

Elsewhere, Palm Beach pummelled Surfers Paradise 5-0, Broadbeach held off Coomera 4-3 and Southport and Nerang split the points in a 0-0 draw.
