ADELAIDE City held a minute's silence to honour the club's founding captain-coach Cosmo Bini who died on Thursday.

Bini led Savoy in 1940 before the club was forced to disband for political reasons during World War II.

The club emerged as Adelaide Juventus in 1946 before changing its name to Adelaide City in 1977.

City eventually demolished Strikers 5-1 at Adelaide City Park to move four points clear of its sixth-placed adversaries yesterday.

Meanwhile, MetroStars is just a point away from claiming the minor premiership after beating Cobras 2-1 in a fierce tussle at TK Shutter.

Michael Matricciani and Jackson Groves netted for MetroStars while Con Karritevlis scored for Cobras 20 minutes from time.
